She developed a special interest in Breast MRI in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, which she expects to progress in her consultant role in BreastCheck and University College Hospital, Galway. Professor Sullivan trained in Dublin before moving to NIH where he served as Interim Director before coming Medical Director and CEO at Maryland Regional Cancer Centre and Holy Cross Cancer Institute. He has served on several national and international radiation oncology panels and is currently a member of the National Screening Board.
Mr Denis Evoy Denis Evoy Dr Valerie Speirs Valerie Speirs Dr John Carey John Carey Mr Denis Evoy is a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in breast and endocrine surgery at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. He has commitments in this post to the national breast screening program, symptomatic breast services, general surgical take and a significant practice in melanoma, thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He is ATLS director; regularly teaches CRISP courses, and also regularly teaches at the RCSI surgical work shops for junior surgical trainees and am the nominated intern tutor for St. Vincent’s. He sits on the BST committee in the college, is Secretary of the Society of Irish Breast Surgeons, and sits on the national council of the IHCA Dr Valerie Speirs obtained a 2:1 in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen followed by her PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of Glasgow in 1990. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2007. Her scientific career has included spells at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, and the universities of Liverpool and Hull. She is currently a Reader in Cellular Pathology within the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine Unit at the University of Leeds where her research focuses on oestrogen receptor biology, aspects of endocrine resistant breast cancer, male breast cancer and developing improved in vitro models of breast cancer. Dr. John Carey is a Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, and specialist in osteoporosis at Galway University Hospitals, Galway Ireland. Dr Carey graduated from University College Dublin Medical School, Ireland in 1993 and completed his training in medicine in Dublin, Ireland and Boston University Medical Centre, Massachusetts, USA. He completed his training in Rheumatology both at Boston University Medical Centre and also at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, and holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Research from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio USA. Dr. Carey is a member of several medical societies including The Massachusetts Medical Society, The American College of Rheumatology, American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, The International Society of Clinical Densitometry, The Arthritis Foundation and the Irish Society of Rheumatology. He has published several book chapters and papers on osteoporosis and imaging in musculoskeletal diseases.
