Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Cancer Medicine, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cambridge. Senior Group Leader,<br />

Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute, Honorary Consultant<br />

Medical Oncologist, Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Caldas currently holds<br />

the Chair <strong>of</strong> Cancer Medicine at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Cambridge. He heads the<br />

Breast Cancer Functional Genomics Laboratory at the new Cancer Research<br />

UK Cambridge Research Institute. He is an Honorary Consultant Medical<br />

Oncologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is also Lead <strong>of</strong> the Cambridge<br />

Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and Director <strong>of</strong> the Cambridge Breast<br />

Cancer Research Unit which will open at Addenbrooke’s Hospital later this<br />

year. He is a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the American College <strong>of</strong> Physicians and the Royal<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Physicians. His current research interests are in the use <strong>of</strong><br />

genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics towards clinical applications in<br />

breast cancer to improve prognostication, individualization <strong>of</strong> treatment<br />

through pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics and experimental<br />

therapeutics. He has also a research program on the genetics <strong>of</strong> gastric<br />

cancer. His main clinical interest is in breast cancer chemotherapy and novel<br />

molecularly targeted therapies. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed<br />

papers including in Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, Nature, Cell, New<br />

England Journal <strong>of</strong> Medicine, PNAS, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer<br />

Research, Journal <strong>of</strong> Clinical Oncology, Genome Biology and Oncogene.<br />

John Robertson is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Surgery at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nottingham</strong> and<br />

works as a Consultant Surgeon at the City Hospital, <strong>Nottingham</strong>, UK.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Robertson’s major clinical and academic research interest lies in<br />

breast cancer. A longstanding and major area <strong>of</strong> research has been<br />

endocrine and growth factor therapies in breast cancer. More recently he has<br />

been involved in developing a blood test for screening and early detection.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Robertson is a member <strong>of</strong> the Steering Committee <strong>of</strong> the Early<br />

Breast Cancer Clinical Trialists Group (EBCCTG) which oversees the<br />

quinquenial ‘Oxford Overview’ <strong>of</strong> adjuvant therapy trials, the <strong>National</strong><br />

Committee <strong>of</strong> the Association <strong>of</strong> Breast Surgeons at BASO, the Society for<br />

Academic and Research Surgery, the British Association <strong>of</strong> Cancer Research,<br />

the British Breast Group, the Association <strong>of</strong> Surgeons <strong>of</strong> Great Britain &<br />

<strong>Ireland</strong>, the European Society <strong>of</strong> Mastology and the European Group for<br />

Breast Cancer Screening. To date, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Robertson has published over 230<br />

scientific papers in refereed journals, written a number <strong>of</strong> book chapters and<br />

edited three books. He is the editor <strong>of</strong> Breast Cancer Online (bco.org).<br />
