Ethics and Policy at the School of Public<br />
Policy, University College of London<br />
and Visiting Professor at the London<br />
School of Economics. He has earned a<br />
reputation for safeguarding the interests<br />
of members of the public in healthcare<br />
and is, perhaps, best known as the leader<br />
of the public inquiry into the deaths in<br />
children’s heart surgery at the Bristol<br />
Royal Infirmary (1998-2001). In 2010, he<br />
produced a review of Children’s Services<br />
in the National Health Service.<br />
Former holder of high judicial office:<br />
The Rt Hon Sir Scott Baker<br />
Sir Scott Baker was called to the Bar in<br />
1961. He was appointed as a Recorder<br />
in 1976 and remained one until he was<br />
appointed as a High Court Judge in<br />
the Family Division in 1988. In 1992,<br />
he transferred to the Queen’s Bench<br />
Division. In 1978 he was appointed as<br />
a Queen’s Counsel. He became a Lord<br />
Justice of Appeal in 2002. He was a<br />
member of the Government Committee<br />
of Inquiry into Human Fertilisation (the<br />
Warnock Committee) 1982-84. He sat as<br />
coroner for the inquests into the deaths<br />
of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi<br />
Fayed in 2007 and 2008. He was made an<br />
Honorary Fellow of Brasenose College,<br />
Oxford in 2003.<br />
Registered Auditor: Professor Isobel<br />
Sharp CBE<br />
Isobel Sharp is a registered auditor and<br />
chartered accountant. She advises on<br />
corporate governance and other public<br />
policy matters for Deloitte LLP. Isobel<br />
is a Visiting Professor at the University<br />
of Edinburgh Business School and was<br />
President of The Institute of Chartered<br />
Accountants of Scotland for 2007-08.<br />
She served on the UK’s Accounting<br />
Standards Board, during which time it<br />
was considering pension issues, and<br />
the Financial Reporting Review Panel.<br />
In particular, she contributed to a<br />
book on reward governance for senior<br />
executives. Isobel was a member of the<br />
Independent Review of <strong>Parliamentary</strong><br />
Allowances group which reported in 2008<br />
on the Reimbursement of Expenses for<br />
Members of the Scottish Parliament.<br />
Former Member of Parliament: Jackie<br />
Ballard<br />
Jackie Ballard has worked in the public<br />
and the voluntary sector. In her early<br />
career she was a social worker and then<br />
a Further Education lecturer. She has<br />
been elected to four tiers of government<br />
– Town, District and County Council<br />
and was the Member of Parliament for<br />
Taunton from 1997-2001. In Parliament,<br />
she was spokesperson on Women’s<br />
Issues and on Local Government from<br />
1997-99 and from 1999-2001 was<br />
Deputy Home Affairs Spokesman with<br />
responsibility for the voluntary sector.<br />
Between 2002 and 2007 she was Director<br />
General of the RSPCA and in October<br />
2007 she was appointed Chief Executive<br />
of Action on Hearing Loss (formerly<br />
RNID).<br />
Ken Olisa OBE<br />
Ken Olisa is an IT entrepreneur and<br />
philanthropist with a focus on social<br />
inclusion. His executive career at IBM<br />
and Wang prepared him to found and<br />
float Interregnum. Today he leads<br />
boutique technology merchant bank,<br />
Restoration Partners. He is an advisor<br />
to, or Director of, several companies<br />
including Thomson Reuters. His extensive<br />
pro bono experience includes NHS Trust<br />
NED, Peabody Trust Governor, Founding<br />
Chairman of the Powerlist Foundation<br />
and Chair of Thames Reach for which<br />
he was awarded an OBE in 2010. He<br />
is Deputy Master of the Information<br />
Technologists’ Livery Company, a Vice<br />
President of BCS, the Chartered Institute<br />
for IT and in 2012, became an 1869<br />
