Carnivals to bring millions
of dollars to Peninsula
THE final planning stages for our soon to be developed Dolphins Stadium are
frantically under way to have the ground up and operational in some capacity,
sometime about mid-year 2016.
Already there is enormous
interest from several different
sporting organisations and the
partnership by the Moreton
Bay Regional Council with
Sports Marketing Australia to
engage sporting carnivals for
the whole council area (which
we hope to get our fair share
of interest) will provide an
economic windfall for the
local council region.
Two carnivals that have put
their hand up take place on
the first and last weekends of
October this year.
Those are the Queensland
Murri Carnival and
Queensland Touch Carnival,
which have committed to this
year with a vision of playing
their carnivals on the new
facilities in 2016 and beyond.

Our meeting earlier in the
year with Sports Marketing
Australia revealed from its
research that a visitor to a
carnival is worth $234 per day
to the local economy.
This is generated by
accommodation, meals,
beverages, groceries,
purchases from retail shops,
entertainment, tourism and
the list goes on.
So we looked into what
both the upcoming carnivals
will bring to our area. The
Murri Carnival conservatively
expects about 55 teams to
participate over a three-day
period.
The Queensland Touch
Carnival expects a few less at
about 52 teams competing.
Let’s just say for the Murri
Carnival each squad
comprises about 25 people,
which includes coaches,
trainers, extra players etc.
So we have 55 teams x 25
squad members = 1375 team
members. For every team we,
within reason, expect about
the same attendance in
spectators.
Again 2 x 1375 = 2750
visitors for three days. Visitors
2750 x three-day stay = 8250
days at $234 per day spend =
$1,930,500 injected into our
economy.
This is a conservative
estimate as the Murri Carnival
had about 25,000 people
attend the carnival over three
days last year (8333 people
per day). Of course, most
travelled out for the day.
The Touch Carnival we
estimate about 52 teams x 15
members = 780 squad
members x two (add
spectators) = 1560 people x
three days = 4650 days at
$234 per day = $1,095,120.
These two carnivals will
hopefully inject more than $3
million into Redcliffe’s local
economy and we aim to repeat
that on several occasions once
the stadium is up and running.
We envisage that we can
attract about 10-15 carnivals
to Redcliffe each year. Our
goal is to participate as well in
events and carnivals like the
recently held Redcliffe
Festival.
The stadium will prove a
tremendous job creator and
fantastic asset to Redcliffe.
There is no other venue of this
size and quality anywhere
within the Greater Brisbane
Area.
Bring on the train and bring
on the stadium and let’s bring
some welcome visitors to
beautiful Redcliffe.
