A MINI-FEST OF ROMANIAN CINEMA
CINEMA PARADISO-LAUDERDALE
OCTOBER 22-25
in partnership with the Romanian american League, Cinema Paradiso and Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival,
with the participation of the Romanian Filmmakers union, and The Romanian Center for National Cinema.
Despite the fact that “Focus on Romania - Ft. Lauderdale Waves 2015” celebrates this Fall only its second year of existence, South
Florida film lovers already cherish its return to CINEMA PARADISO, this October 22nd through 25th.
Five feature films, a documentary and a collection of award winning shorts from Romania will screen at the well-known arthouse, home
of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF), this year at its 30th edition. Guest filmmakers from Romania will again present
and discuss their work with the interested audiences.
Parties will mark the opening and closing nights, while refreshment will be served between screenings, on Friday and Saturday.
TRAIN OF LIFE
Director: Radu Mihaileanu / Romania / 1998 / 103 min / French w/English sub-titles
This comedy-drama is set in Central Europe during the summer of 1941. Yiddish-speaking
Jews purchase a train, forge identity papers, and leave town. Posing as both prisoners and
Nazis, they hope to reach Palestine via the Soviet Union, but problems arise when they
encounter real Germans.
It’s entertainment that never lets us off the hook. Village Voice
every bit as reverent as “Schindler’s List” and no less successful. Film.com
ORIENTEERING
Director: Dan Pita / Romania / 1982 / 96 min / Romanian w/English sub-titles
A group of people from various walks of life enter an orienteering course in a wilderness, that not
only test their strength and courage, but also their minds and spirit.
funny, whimsical, and densely metaphoric, Orienteering is as equally potent as a wry allegory on
the Ceauşescu regime under the thumb of Soviet-era communism as it is an acutely observed
satire on the petty dynamics of office politics. filmref.com
