The 30th Annual Fort Lauderdale
International Film Festival is dedicated
to our friend, collaborator,
sponsor and past Board member,
Peter Langone. Back in the mid
90’s, Phil Goldfarb, then of Doubletree
and Vice Chair of FLIFF, nominated
Peter for the Board. Peter, in
his signature untucked t-shirt, blue
jeans, bedraggled hair and swarthy
Italian complexion seemed at first incongruous
choice with his unedited
speech, dropping F-bombs at meetings
followed by his hearty laugh
and infectious smile. In spite of his
style, or perhaps because of it, he
quickly won over all...and that was
before he began contributing to
FLIFF his captivating art.
His first poster was created from
a photo shoot on Fort Lauderdale
Beach in 1998 featuring a golden
sun splashing the surf, sand, a director’s
chair and two models (Bonnie Leigh Adams and Patricia
Como) soaking it all in. Over the years Peter went on to shoot
nine posters and commercials. Peter also wowed our celebrities
doing private sittings with Jane Lynch, Matt Damon, George
Hamilton, Dennis Haysbert, Jeremy Renner, Paul Sorvino, and
many more. Gallery owner and close friend of Peter’s, Larry
Clemons is framing all of the celebrity shots and we will create a
permanent Langone Gallery in Cinema Paradiso – Lauderdale.

PETER LANGONE
Peter joined us in Cannes on two
of our trips in the 90’s. What a
hoot! One evening, walking along
the Rue d’Antibes, which is sort of
the Las Olas of Cannes, for some
reason I pointed out a suntan lotion
poster of a girl on the beach of St
Tropez lit up in a Pharmacie window.
Peter remarked, Jesus, I
took that shot nearly fifteen years
ago, can’t believe they are still
using it. Lots of stories here regarding
gendarmes, castles, movie
stars and mussels. Peter loved the
food, wine, women, architecture,
ambiance of Cannes...which is a
long way of saying, Peter loved
life...everywhere.
In 2001, Bonnie and I married in
Key West. Peter came but we hired
a local photographer for the small
event, so Peter could just have fun.
He brought his little Nikon Cool Pix
just for snapshots. The local photographer turned out to be a disaster...and
Peter with his toy camera saved the day (there is more
story here that I will tell after a glass of wine...or two).
Artistically, no one during my 27 FLIFF years has contributed
as much to the Film Festival. Peter was one of a kind...was he a
saint, no, he wasn’t. He was fun, loving, lovable, talented and totally
unique. We can’t replace him, but we’ll never forget him.
