BACKGROUND OF COLIN
MACKENZIE LTD
Having qualified as a chartered surveyor in
the early 1970s, Colin ran offices in Sussex
and Kent for Hamptons, before taking over
the helm of their London country house
department; he now offers over 45 years’
experience in the country house and
estates markets across the south of
England. It was the appeal of working to
find clients their ideal house that led Colin
to change direction in the late 1990s and,
following a spell with the buying team at
Knight Frank, he joined forces in 2003 with
his daughter Liz in forming their own search
consultancy (Liz had been responsible for
residential developments across Europe and
the West Indies with Savills). Debbie
Cobbold, having been a senior member of
the sales team at Hamptons for just over
a decade, has recently joined the team.

We know and have bought properties for
clients in Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey
and into Hampshire, in towns, villages and in
the depths of the countryside. We know
where the most suitable local schools are, how
best to commute, which parts of the
countryside are protected, what major changes
in planning policy are likely to be, where the
main air routes are etc. Each area has its own
nuances and agency coverage – whether local
or from London – and it is our job to know
where to look and who to contact.

Unlike estate agents, we do not sell property,
acting solely on behalf of the buyer. Contrary
to Phil and Kirstie, we like our clients to make
