WATER
SAFETY
The summer months are a
great time to enjoy water sports
such as swimming, surfing and
canoeing. Whichever activity
you’re taking part in, don’t sink
the fun!
Make sure you take responsibility for your safety by ensuring
you're properly prepared for the conditions.
Here are some top tips for making sure you stay safe while in
and around water this summer…
• If you see someone in difficulty, don't attempt a rescue.
Tell a lifeguard, or dial 999/112 and ask for the coastguard.
• Get trained - take part in any safety training needed for your
sport or activity
• Check the weather and tides before setting out
• Wear the correct lifejacket for your activity
• Take an appropriate means of communication with you, such
as a mobile phone
• Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back
• Don't drink alcohol before going in or on the water
TOP TIPS FOR APARTMENT LIVING
Living in an apartment can be very different to living in
a house. The apartment lifestyle can require a bit more
consideration for your neighbours, and a little courtesy can
certainly make apartment life run smoothly.
Try to be Considerate
• By entering and exiting the building
and apartments quietly.
• By negotiating a solution with
neighbours should they ask you to
keep the noise level down.
• By being aware of noise transfer on
hard wood floors.
Be a Good Neighbour
• By respecting parking spaces and
making sure that you are within the
white lines in the tenant car park.
• By asking visitors to park at
convenient areas off the premises, if
there is no visitor parking available.
• By giving neighbours a heads up if
you are having a party and by making
sure music isn’t too loud and that
guests leaving your apartment do so
quietly and with care.
• By offering help to elderly neighbours
with groceries and bags and by
holding doors.
• By checking in to see they are
doing ok.
Take responsibility
• By recycling, as this is an effective
way of reducing the amount of
general waste and helping keep the
bin area safe and clean.
• By keeping personal belongings out
of communal areas.
