What makes my child eligible for a<br />
School Uniform Allowance?<br />
You can apply for School Uniform<br />
Allowance for children attending<br />
Primary, Secondary, Grammar, Voluntary<br />
Grammar, Integrated Secondary and<br />
Special Schools. This also includes an<br />
allowance for P.E clothing too. Children<br />
attending mainstream Nursery schools/<br />
Nursery Units or Reception Classes are<br />
not entitled to this help.<br />
For a pupil to be eligible the parent(s) and<br />
the pupil must meet criteria set by the<br />
Department of Education and have their<br />
application approved by the relevant<br />
Education and Library Board.<br />
Parents who are receiving any of the<br />
following benefits will be entitled to<br />
receive a School Uniform Allowance for<br />
their child:<br />
• Income Support<br />
• Income Based Jobseekers’ Allowance<br />
• Income-related Employment and<br />
Support Allowance<br />
• Support from the Home Office under<br />
the National Asylum Support Service<br />
(NASS)<br />
• The Guarantee element of State<br />
Pension Credit<br />
• Child Tax Credit or Working Tax<br />
Credits and have an annual income of<br />
£16,190 or less<br />
• Or pupils who are boarders at a<br />
special school<br />
A pupil who receives Income Support<br />
in their own name is also entitled to<br />
receive a School Uniform Allowance.<br />

under 15 years of age on 01/08/2015<br />
Uniform allowance of £56.00 for Post<br />
Primary and Special School pupils 15<br />
years of age or over on 01/08/2015<br />
P.E allowance of £22.00 for all eligible<br />
pupils attending Post Primary and<br />
Special Schools<br />
Is my child eligible for Free School<br />
Meals?<br />
The eligibility criteria for Free School<br />
Meals is similar to School Uniform<br />
Allowances, with additional children<br />
qualifying who have a statement of<br />
special educational needs and who<br />
are designated to require a special diet.<br />
You cannot receive a monetary<br />
allowance instead of your child receiving<br />
free school meals.<br />
How do I apply?<br />
You can receive both application forms<br />
directly from your child’s school, or<br />
contact your local Education and Library<br />
Board. Please note, you should apply to<br />
the Education and Library Board you live<br />
in even if your child goes to school in a<br />
different Board area.<br />
