Graduates of <strong>Australian</strong> or New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />
medical schools who have completed an<br />
internship in Australia or New Zeal<strong>and</strong> are<br />
eligible to apply for General Registration<br />
through the <strong>Medical</strong> Board of Australia. <strong>The</strong><br />
Board grants Provisional Registration to<br />
<strong>Australian</strong> or New Zeal<strong>and</strong> medical school<br />
graduates to undertake the intern year in<br />
Victoria.<br />
A <strong>Guide</strong> for <strong>Intern</strong>s in Victoria issued by the<br />
PMCV (Post Graduate <strong>Medical</strong> Council of<br />
Victoria) aims to provide new graduates with<br />
some basic information as they commence the<br />
next stage of their journey towards becoming<br />
a fully qualified doctor. It can be downloaded<br />
from the PMCV website - www.pmcv.com.au.<br />
APPlying tO viCtOriA<br />
<strong>The</strong> application process for Victoria has gone<br />
under extensive review but the main process<br />
final year students have to take is through<br />
the PMCV website. Application includes<br />
submission of a C<strong>and</strong>idate Priority List which<br />
is the list of hospitals you would like to be<br />
accepted into, in order of preference. <strong>The</strong>re<br />
are 18 allocated preferences but you don’t<br />
have to complete all of them. In addition to this<br />
there is a separate application process for the<br />
hospitals you have chosen on your priority list.<br />
This varies from hospital to hospital but may<br />
require a curriculum vitae or a evidence based<br />
curriculum vitae (for the Austin <strong>and</strong> Royal<br />
Melbourne Hospitals), a cover letter, academic<br />
results, clinical <strong>and</strong> non-clinical references. For<br />
