In emergency, interns have an opportunity to<br />
consolidate clinical skills <strong>and</strong> reasoning essential<br />
in acute care. Surgical departments are deeply<br />
involved in research with opportunities for junior<br />
doctors to become involved with own projects in<br />
these departments <strong>and</strong> publish studies.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> hospital is in Shepparton <strong>and</strong> serves<br />
as the Base Hospital to a region including<br />
the Goulburn Valley <strong>and</strong> extending over the<br />
border into New South Wales (population<br />
approximately 160,000).<br />
• Goulburn Valley Health is a 280-bed acute<br />
<strong>and</strong> extended care facility. It has two smaller<br />
sites at Rushworth <strong>and</strong> Tatura with acute <strong>and</strong><br />
aged care beds.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> broad range of services includes<br />
surgical, acute medical, paediatric, obstetrics<br />
<strong>and</strong> gynaecology, intensive care <strong>and</strong><br />
psychiatry services as well as extended<br />
care <strong>and</strong> regional services. <strong>The</strong> emergency<br />
Department has approximately 35,000<br />
attendances per year.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> Shepparton Campus is close to preschool<br />
centres <strong>and</strong> schools of all categories<br />
<strong>and</strong> facilities are quite satisfactory. <strong>The</strong><br />
Greater Shepparton area caters for all major<br />
sporting activities <strong>and</strong> has two major indoor<br />
gymnasium complexes including an indoor<br />
Aquatic Centre. Shepparton is close to<br />
major Tourist Wineries like Mitchelton <strong>and</strong><br />
