The End. Or is it?
Satan's final rebellion against God will be thwarted, and God will finally deal with the devil.
The tenth verse of Revelation 20 describes how God handles Satan. Just what does this
verse tell us about the fate of the Adversary?
The first part of the answer lies in the Greek word basanisthesontai, translated "tormented"
here. The word basanisthesontai, comes from the verb basanizo and the noun basanos,
931 basanos bas'-an-os perhaps remotely from the same as 939 (through the notion
of going to the bottom); a touch-stone, i.e. (by analogy) torture:--torment.
939 basis bas'-ece from baino (to walk); a pace ("base"), i.e. (by implication) the foot:--
foot.
The greek word basanisthesontai is derived from the precious stone industry that was
popular in Lydia. It means "rub upon the touchstone (basanos)," which would give it the
meaning of to "test or make proof of anything . . ."
This implies that all punishments and sufferring imposed by the loving God is only to prove
or to refine his children. This is true of human suffering here on earth now and also to hell.
But how long is this suffering in the hell? If it is for purification or proving it has to be finite.
Does the bible indicate that?
Rev 20:10 And 2532 the 3588 devil 1228 that deceived 4105 them 846 was cast 906 into 1519 the 3588 lake 3041
of fire 4442 and 2532 brimstone, 2303 where 3699 the 3588 beast 2342 and 2532 the 3588 false prophet 5578
are, and 2532 shall be tormented 928 day 2250 and 2532 night 3571 1519, 165, 165
forever and ever
165 aion ahee-ohn' from the same as 104; properly, an age; by extension, perpetuity
(also past); by implication, the world; specially (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or
future):--age, course, eternal, (for) ever(-more), (n-)ever, (beginning of the , while the)
world (began, without end).
104 aei ah-eye' from an obsolete primary noun (apparently meaning continued
duration); "ever" by qualification regularly; by implication, earnestly; --always, ever.
eis tous aionas ton aionon,( aiwnav twn aiwnwn)))) ) literally means "into the ages of the
ages." or "ages into ages"
