Opportunity Network (LION)<br />
is a group of people (friends,<br />
coworkers, etc.) who meet<br />
to invest in their local<br />
community. It is designed to<br />
create opportunities for local<br />
businesses and entrepreneurs<br />
and this informal group can<br />
invest in businesses without<br />
running afoul of U.S. Securities<br />
and Exchange Commission<br />
rules regarding shares and<br />
investments.<br />
It is far more impressive when others discover<br />
your good qualities without your help.<br />
Local Investment<br />
Opportunity Network was<br />
founded in 2008 by a group of local citizens in Jefferson County, Washington. Intent<br />
on allowing investors of all economic capability to participate, they created a loose<br />
organization of interested parties careful to follow SEC regulations regarding accredited<br />
investors and investment clubs. This required that they make their investment decisions<br />
independent of each other, meeting with borrowers separately and agreeing to their own<br />
financial arrangements with the borrower. The result was a group that did not have an<br />
organizational entity, only a member agreement that, primarily, promised confidentiality<br />
to borrowers and investors who participated in LION's activities.<br />
