• Exploring issues related to physical, emotional and spiritual health such as<br />
self-esteem, body image, bullying, empathy, emotional intelligence, resiliency,<br />
courage, etc.<br />

• Incorporating healthy activities in all aspects of life<br />

Adventure Ideas for Active & Healthy Living<br />
• Invite the Scouts to make healthy dehydrated foods for the Beaver Scouts to taste.<br />
Will the Beavers guess what they are eating?<br />
• Try a common activity, but with a challenge faced by someone who is<br />
differently abled.<br />
• Join together in trying a new activity such as karate, rock climbing or yoga.<br />
• Take a Standard or Wilderness First Aid course.<br />
• Invite a local speaker on bullying or mental health issues to engage both youth<br />
and parents, then choose an action you could take as a Section to share what<br />
you’ve learned.<br />
• Invite someone who knows about meditation to teach some basics about<br />
breathing, focusing and silence.<br />
• Find a local chef who can work with the Section to create a new recipe for the<br />
next camp or backpacking trip.<br />
• Ask each Lodge, Lair or Patrol to create a new camp snack that is both nutritious<br />
and fun to eat.<br />
• Invite someone who has faced a great challenge or hardship to tell his or her story.<br />
• Learn about the edible plants in your area.<br />
• Explore using black light powders to model the spread of germs. What practices<br />
might you implement at meetings and camps to address this problem?<br />
4. CITIZENSHIP<br />
During adventures in this Program Area, youth are involved in learning about being<br />
good citizens in the community, nation and world.<br />
The scope of this Program Area includes:<br />
• Learning about the local community, about Canada and about the world<br />
community in which we live<br />
• Learning about the World Organization of the Scout Movement<br />
• Offering service to the community, to our country and to the world<br />
• Learning about being a good citizen by exploring Canada’s history, form of<br />
government, legal system, etc.<br />
• Understanding the interdependence that exists between people and<br />
between countries<br />
• Participating in adventures such as jamborees that connect us beyond our<br />
local Groups<br />
Adventure Ideas for Citizenship<br />
• Visit a fire hall.<br />
• Put on a talent show at a local seniors' home.<br />
• Create an advertising campaign to raise awareness about an important issue.<br />
