When, therefore, he found <strong>in</strong> his study of the Bible, various<br />

chronological periods that, accord<strong>in</strong>g to his understand<strong>in</strong>g of<br />

them, extended to the second com<strong>in</strong>g of Christ, he could<br />

not but regard them as the “times before appo<strong>in</strong>ted,” which<br />

God had revealed unto His servants. “The secret th<strong>in</strong>gs,”<br />

says Moses, “belong unto the Lord our God; but those th<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever”<br />

Deuteronomy 29:29; and the Lord declares <strong>by</strong> the prophet<br />

Amos, that He “will do noth<strong>in</strong>g, but He revealeth His secret<br />

unto His servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7. The students<br />

stupendous event to take place <strong>in</strong> human history clearly po<strong>in</strong>ted<br />

out <strong>in</strong> the Scriptures of truth.<br />

“As I was fully conv<strong>in</strong>ced,” says Miller, “that all Scripture<br />

15:4), I could but regard the chronological portions of the<br />

Bible as be<strong>in</strong>g as much entitled to our serious consideration,<br />

as any other portion of the Scriptures. I felt therefore that <strong>in</strong><br />

endeavor<strong>in</strong>g to comprehend what God <strong>in</strong> His mercy had seen
