Lights of Hope<br />
Lights of Hope," an event to raise awareness <strong>and</strong> helping the addicted". Lights of Hope is an awareness event<br />
that is present in every state, <strong>and</strong> started by “<strong>The</strong> Addicts Mom”. This group focuses on the mothers of addicted<br />
children. On Saturday, <strong>September</strong> 10th, in Downtown Portl<strong>and</strong> "Lights of Hope" was held. <strong>The</strong> event was organized<br />
by Penny Conway.<br />
Speakers included State Senator Mario Scavello, State Representative, Joe Emrick, Representatives from<br />
Recovery Revolution, A Clean Slate, Bloom, NA, AA, Drug Free World, Lehigh Valley<br />
Youth House, Clearbrook Treatment Center,<br />
Pyramid Healthcare, Teen Challenge <strong>and</strong> Portl<strong>and</strong><br />
Police Chief Mulligan were all present to answer<br />
questions.<br />
A c<strong>and</strong>elight vigil was held <strong>and</strong> everyone was<br />
welcome to light a c<strong>and</strong>le. A white c<strong>and</strong>le to<br />
represent those that are in recovery, a black c<strong>and</strong>le<br />
for those that have passed <strong>and</strong> lost their battle<br />
with addiction, <strong>and</strong>/or a red c<strong>and</strong>le for those that<br />

Safety Day was held at East Bangor Park on Sat.,<br />
<strong>September</strong> 10th. <strong>The</strong> day included Fire Truck tours,<br />
K-9 <strong>and</strong> a place Taser<br />
Demostation Demonstrations,<br />
Scouts made<br />
first aid kits gave them<br />
to those who attended<br />
the event.<br />
