MR. WALTER COLE (Coach 1975-2013)<br />

Walter Cole has been a fixture in the Pen Argyl Area School District <strong>and</strong> surrounding<br />

community for over 40 years. His dedication to the sport of tennis <strong>and</strong><br />

his community is second to none. He graduated from Bangor Area High School<br />

in 1964, then earned a bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg State College<br />

in 1968, <strong>and</strong> a Master’s degree in History in 1972, also at East Stroudsburg<br />

State College.<br />

In 1975, Walt started the girl’s tennis program at Pen Argyl Area High School,<br />

where he was also a Social Studies Teacher. He coached the girls until 2013,<br />

dedicating 38 years to his program. He also coached the boy’s tennis team from<br />

2002-2007. He coached his girls to the Colonial League Finals three times.<br />

His best girl’s seasons included a 2000 Colonial League Championship with<br />

a record of 22 wins <strong>and</strong> 1 loss. That year the team was also in the District XI<br />

Team Finals. In 2003, Walt once again coached a team to the District XI Team<br />

Finals. His 2002 Boy’s team went 17-2 in the regular season <strong>and</strong> went on to the<br />

Colonial League Team Finals.<br />

Walter is a 5 time Colonial League Girls Coach of the Year, named Express<br />

Times Girls Coach of the Year in 2000, <strong>and</strong> 2003 United State Tennis Association<br />

Eastern Pennsylvania District High School Coach of the Year. He started the Colonial<br />

League Girls <strong>and</strong> Boys JV tournaments <strong>and</strong> ran them for 5 years. He also<br />

started the District XI Boys <strong>and</strong> Girls Tennis Scholar Athlete Awards <strong>and</strong> Banquet<br />

<strong>and</strong> has been its chairman for 17 years.<br />

His dedication was not only found in his love for the sport of tennis. From<br />

1968-2008, Walter taught social studies at Pen Argyl High School. From 1969-<br />

2008, he was the director of the Pen Argyl High School Jazz B<strong>and</strong>. In 1998, he<br />

received the Pen Argyl High School Educator of the Year Award <strong>and</strong> in 2012 he<br />

received the Friends of Education Award from the Pen Argyl Education Association.<br />

Walter is still very involved in the slate belt community. He is a member of the<br />

board of trustees of the Slate <strong>Belt</strong> Heritage Center <strong>and</strong> runs a local history club<br />

at Pen Argyl High School. He is the president of the Weona Park Pool Pals <strong>and</strong> is<br />

the Choir director at Grace United Methodist Church. Walter <strong>and</strong> his wife, Mary<br />

Lou, reside in Pen Argyl where they raised 2 sons, Christopher <strong>and</strong> Daniel, <strong>and</strong><br />

are the proud gr<strong>and</strong>parents to 5 gr<strong>and</strong>children.<br />

MRS. ELIZABETH (HEARD) ROHN (Class of 2000)<br />

Elizabeth graduated from Pen Argyl Area High School in 2000 with one of the<br />

most impressive track & field careers to date. 1998 Sophomore Year: District<br />

XI 100 Meter High Hurdles - Champion, District XI Long Jump - Silver Medalist,<br />

PIAA Championships 100 Meter High Hurdles - Qualifier, Team MVP - scoring<br />

150 team points. 1999 Junior Year:Liz missed almost the entire season due to<br />

an injury she sustained during the second meet of the season. Incredibly, her<br />

first meet times <strong>and</strong> distances qualified her for both the Colonial League <strong>and</strong><br />

District XI track meets in four events.<br />

2000 Senior Year: Colonial League 100 Meter High Hurdles - Champion,<br />

District XI 100 Meter High Hurdles - Champion, PIAA Championships 100 Meter<br />

High Hurdles - 6th place, District XI 300 Meter Low Hurdles - Silver Medalist,<br />

PIAA Championships 300 Meter Low Hurdles - Qualifier, District XI Triple Jump<br />

- Champion, PIAA Championships Triple Jump - Qualifier, Team MVP - Scoring<br />

207 out of 215 maximum team points, 39 Colonial League 1st place finishes,<br />

4 Colonial League 2nd place finishes, PAAHS School Record 100 Meter High<br />

Hurdles - 15.1 seconds, PAAHS School Record 300 Meter Low Hurdles - 47.7<br />

seconds, PAAHS School Record Triple Jump - 35’ 7’’, John F. Laky Female<br />

Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.<br />

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University, a Master’s degree<br />

from Bryn Mawr College, <strong>and</strong> a Doctorate from Marywood University. While at<br />

Lehigh, she was the Patriot League 100 Meter Hurdles Champion in 2001. She<br />

is currently employed by Lehigh Valley Health Network <strong>and</strong> resides in Bethlehem<br />

with her husb<strong>and</strong>, Robert, <strong>and</strong> son, Christian.<br />

MRS. CHELSEA (DUE) DONOFRY (Class of 2006)<br />

Chelsea lettered in Field Hockey, Basketball, Track & Field <strong>and</strong> Soccer during her<br />

years at Pen Argy High School. She graduated in 2006 with a very impressive<br />

field hockey resume, <strong>and</strong> is one of the most dominant field hockey players in<br />
