• Member of the Triple Gold Club having won the Stanley Cup in 2006, a gold medal
with Canada at the 2007 World Championship and the 2010 Olympics.
• One of four NHL players who have played at least 900 games and tallied at least
300 goals, 400 assists and 700 points since entering the NHL in 2003-04 (Iginla,
Marleau and D. Sedin).
• Only player in NHL history who has played at least one game with three different
brothers in his career (Jared, Jordan and Marc).
• Ranks first in Carolina franchise history in shots on goal (3,033), second in goals
(322), assists (453) and scoring (775) and third in games played (909).
• Led Hurricanes in goals and ranked second in assists and points in 2014-15.
• Ranked second in the NHL in takeaways (77) and led Carolina in scoring and assists
and ranked third in goals in 2013-14.
• Ranked sixth in the NHL in scoring in 2012-13 and his 11-game point streak (8-
9=17, 1/24-2/14/13) was the longest point streak in the NHL for the season.
• Led Hurricanes in goals, assists and points in 2011-12 and ranked T-4th in the
NHL with three shorthanded goals and fifth amongst NHL forwards in average TOI/

• Ranked T-11th in the NHL in scoring and T-12th in goals in 2010-11. He also ranked
T-7th in the NHL in PPG and GWG.
• Was named the 13th captain in Carolina history on Jan. 20, 2010.
• Ranked second in the NHL in shots on goal (career-high), T-5th in goals, T-7th in
GWG and eighth in PPG in 2008-09.
• Led team and ranked sixth in the NHL in goals and T-9th in scoring during 2009
Stanley Cup Playoffs.
• Has played in four NHL All-Star Games (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011) scoring at
least one goal in each game.
• Served as captain of Team Staal at 2011 All-Star Game.

• Led AHL in shorthanded goals and plus-minus and ranked 10th in scoring in 2004-

• Ranked fourth in shots, T-9th in scoring and assists and 12th in goals amongst NHL
rookies in 2003-04.
• Participated in the NHL YoungStars Game at the 2004 NHL All-Star Weekend on Feb.

• Tallied 209 points (81-128=209) and 99 PIM in 185 games during three seasons (2000-03) with the Peterborough
Petes in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
• Has represented Canada at the 2001 Six Nations Tournament (gold), the 2002 World Under-18 Championship
(alternate captain) and the 2008 (silver) and 2013 World Championships (captain).
CAREER TRANSACTIONS
• Signed by Minnesota as a free agent on July 1, 2016; Acquired by New York Rangers from Carolina in exchange
for Aleksi Saarela and a 2016 second-round selection (traded to Chicago who selected Artur Kayumov) and
2017 second-round selection; Selected by Carolina in the first round (2nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
• Signed through 2018-19. Becomes an unrestricted free agent 2019-20.
PERSONAL
• Helped form the Staal Family Foundation, which benefits children fighting cancer and their families. The organization
sponsors a Canadian PGA tour event, the Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, and raised $250,000
in 2016.
• Wife, Tanya, and sons Parker (7), Levi (4) and Finley (1).
• He likes to watch football and cheer for the Minnesota Vikings.
• The Wild’s inaugural season (2000-01) was 16 years ago: He first drove a Pontiac Sunfire.
