Cleveland Bays Meet at
Doncaster Racing College
A
couple of weeks
ago saw the global
Cleveland Bay Horse
community coming together to
promote the rare and critically
endangered Cleveland Bay.
Every year, supported by the
Cleveland Bay Horse Society,
riders, owners and breeders
are encouraged to get out
and about raising awareness
and raising the profile of
this truly versatile breed of
horse. The breed is popular
worldwide with owner’s in
Canada, America, UK, France,
Australia and New Zealand,
and all are encouraged to take
part in this annual event.
Here in the UK a group
of owners, breeders and
supporters got together
at Doncaster’s Northern
Racing College, at an event
organised with support and
encouragement from the
Cleveland Bay Horse Society.
Twelve horses, both pure and
part bred, enjoyed an informal,
fun filled day with activities
which promote the breed as
an all-round versatile riding
horse. The day began with
a parade of the horses and
a brief commentary of their
breeding and history. A trophy
was presented to the best pure
and part bred the judge would
like to take home!
There were rosettes and
goody bags for all who took
part, riders and supporters
on foot, who were also there
to enjoy a day of watching
Bays in action! There was a
show-jumping course and
local rider Jasmine Lamb (nee
ansfield who copetes part
bred Lindon Joint Honours
in BS, was on hand to offer
advice and support to budding
showjumpers. Trec GBbrought
the control of paces
and obstacle elements to the
day. It seems Cleveland Bays
are very good at Trec and
many expressed an interest in
taking up the sport.
By far the most exciting part of
the day was the experience of
using the gallops and it was a
fantastic sight to see Cleveland
Bays galloping around the
track, it was hard to tell who
enjoyed the experience most, a
horse or rider!
At the end of the day everyone
went home with a huge smile
on their face and a very tired,
but happy Cleveland Bay in
their lorry or trailer.
