EVENTING
EMMA HYSLOP-WEBB
A Successful MONTH!
The Sun is finally shining, people are buying horses, and the countdown begins to
the Olympics and that local event that Begins in B…… and ends in Y.
We headed to Great Witchingham
with five horses, one rider
and two grooms. This was
made easier by staying down in Norfolk
the night before with friends, so we
were spoilt with a BBQ and a super
homemade Pavolva. We had five horses
some stepping up a level so we all had
our hands full. Charlotte ran the day
to military precision and we managed
to pull out five double clears. We had
Ozzie and Matcho in the Intermediate,
Perry and Duey (Wedding Present) in
the Novice and Smartie in the 100. The
weather was good to us until the last
two horses and then we got soaked.
But all in all a productive day, I do get
satisfaction from producing horses when
they do well, especially when they have
stepped up a level. I allow them to gain
confidence in their first run and will push
Wally and his field buddy
them for the time in their second run, or
when I feel they are ready.
I then headed to Barbury with
Matcho to do the 2*, this had
been planned in mind with him
stepping up to 3* level at Burgham,
being aimed for the 8/9 Championships
at Blenheim later in the year. I had been
trying different techniques on him,
more about keeping him softer through
the neck and being able to push him a
little more across the country. Barbury
is a super viewing event for spectators
but a very twisty course to navigate, as
a rider. So I was very pleased with how
he performed cross country. Barbury is
also known for dying the water Blue, at
the water complex, this really backs the
horses off and causes lots of falls. He
flew round and is now entered for his
first 3*. Between now and then we will
be doing lots of cross country schooling
and training to ensure that he is ready for
this big step.
Heading up to Burgham are Wally,
Matcho, Duey and O.B, so keep
Matcho flying round Barbury 2*
