Happy Hour at Abuelo’s

So, does everyone know
what Abuelo translates to in
English? Sure you do if you
remember your High School Spanish.
Heck I can’t even remember High School.
Well it means Grandfather. What is
unique about the word Abuelo’s – it has
been Americanized with an apostrophe.
With the apostrophe we don’t think it will translate back to
Spanish very well. What is somewhat interesting about all
of this; if you ever visit Montreal and especially Quebec, the
apostrophe in the word McDonald’s has been removed. It
wouldn’t be acceptable in the strict French language in that
region of the world. Such is the way of languages, and mind
you I am no linguist so corrections are always appreciated.
A few highlights regarding Abuelo’s; the restaurant
is very spacious and even has a separate room for special
gatherings. Its Tex-Mex food is above average while pricing is
moderate. The décor blends the unusual with the Traditional.
Murals and an overall Spanish or Mediterranean motif lends
to a South of
the Border feel.
And their Salsa
should not go
unnoticed, it
is pretty darn
good. One
might say that
Abuelo’s is to
Mexican what
P.F. Chang’s is to
Chinese. They
do a good job
and with around 40 restaurants in 14 states it is a growing
and very popular Texas-run chain.
Lest we forget we would like to thank Bob and Clara
Lewis for their dedication over the last two and a half
years for organizing many Happy Hours. Happy Hour has
been a good forum to catch up with your fellow Maverick
discussing your car or various events conducted by our
active club. Bob and Clara are not going away, of course,
just changing the guard so we know, and hope to see them
both at future Happy Hours. Thanks to you both!
Some small snippets of information: We understand
that Hope House is doing well and what our club set out to
do for the children’s playground will be successful - Parade
in 2011 has been moved to Savannah, Georgia. That should
be a fantastic venue. Savannah is an absolutely beautiful
city to visit – Many are chomping at the bit to speed-up the
clock so we get to St, Charles, Illinois, this year’s Parade
venue ASAP. Thanks to Wendy Shoffit for organizeimg a
pre-departure meeting at Spring Creek BBQ located at 315
State Hwy 114, Grapevine, Texas for June 22, 2010. It was
fun for all in attendance.
For future Happy Hour gatherings we are attempting to
organize venues at least six months in advance. At the time
