An F1 race in
Austin, Texas!
Be still my
heart! Last year, in my not so
personal letter to Bernie E. and
Tony George, I urged them to
get over themselves and reinstitute
the F1 race at Indy. I
also suggested using the IRL cars for an American Grand
Prix. I take it all back. Austin is perfect. It is just far
enough away to make it a fun road trip and there is 6th
street and lots of other fun hangouts including the near
famous Crown and Anchor. I can imagine Mavericks, Hill
Country, and Lone Star, and all our other Zone 5 friends
having special events planned to make the race even more
enjoyable. If this really happens, we should have a great
new track to try out for DE’s, and maybe a Club Race.
Game on.
Last month I suggested saving August 6th, 7th, and
8th for our annual Round-Up celebration. Now is the time
to sign up. We have a great line-up of things to do, and
the cost is darn near free. Only $45 gets you a great show
at the Grapevine Opry, a catered dinner, Hors d’oeuvres,
door prizes, fun stuff like show and shine, and road trips.
We even have some time to do a little wine tasting and
investigate the unique shops in Downtown Grapevine. We
have negotiated a great rate at a hotel near Grapevine Mills
where we can gather to enjoy the great company. If you
choose not to stay at the hotel, come join us anyway. Let’s
make this a gigantic party. Check the ad in this month’s
Slipstream, or check it out on our web. See ya there!
Robyn Howard has threatened me with a near death
experience if I didn’t enter an autocross soon. Well, I
stopped by the June event at Pennington Field in Bedford.
I thought I was just going to stop by and say Hi. Wrong.
She spotted me, and with a look that struck fear into my
very soul, told me to get a helmet and report back. Yes
Ma’am! Bryan Bell jumped into the right seat, and helped
me thru the maze. My times were starting to get respectable,
so I told Bryan I was going to go it alone. I did pretty well
except I forgot to drive about ½ the course. No wonder my
times were so low. I think I need a little more practice.
I think he has been doing some of them since before I
was born. Before my car was born for sure. For being
everywhere at once, including working with us at the Hope
House, Joel is the July MAV of the Month.
For being the Maverick of the Month, The Silver
Fox in Grapevine is giving Joel dinner for two at their
award winning steak house.
Joel, thanks for all you do. (BTW, you owe me a free
black flag pass!)
