Maverick Minutes
Madhu Rao, Secretary
Here we are, halfway through 2011.
Our July board meeting started
at 7 p.m. with a mid-year review
of our financial position. John Hamilton
and Jim Falgout reviewed our expenses on
a seasonal and activity-level basis. John
asked the committee chairs to forecast
their anticipated expenses by the August
10th board meeting and identify any areas where funds
could be used more efficiently. Why do this? It relates to
the goals John outlined in January to create an inclusive,
fun, and fiscally-healthy club.
Madhu Rao, (that’s me), briefly reviewed our Maverick
Region survey. The survey is just one way we appreciate
your feedback. Other methods include our website
suggestion box, by phone or in person at an event. Feel free
to contact any of us with your suggestions.
Madhu also described the timeline associated with Maverick
Region 2012 officer elections. He referenced the process
outlined in article nine on the Maverick Region website
(http://mav.pca.org/About/bylaws.asp). A nomination
committee has been established to ensure transparency in
the election process. The committee will be led by Carey
Spreen and include John Harvey and Brendan Eagan. If
you have any questions or an interest in running for one
of the elected officer positions please email: nomination@
mavpca.org with your name and contact information before
September 1, 2011. The Nominations Committee will create
the ballot listing the candidates running for the four elected
offices. Future issues of Slipstream will contain additional
information about the election and the ballot. The results
will be announced at Founders’ Day on November 12, 2011.
There’s another reason to attend, right?
Travis Howard updated the board about the June AX/TT at
Mineral Wells. He described the use of a chase vehicle to
help ensure the event was safe and fun. He also reiterated the
need for volunteers and instructors to ensure a great driving
experience for all. Please contact Travis at tt@mavpca.org
or Tannia Dobbins at ax@mavpca.org if you are interested.
John Harvey described the recent Sunday driving tour. A
total of 76 people (41 cars) participated. He and Brendan
Eagan described the process of uploading the driving tour
maps to the Maverick website BEFORE a drive. This will
help create a great driving experience for all. If you would
like to help out at one of the drives please contact John at
tours@mavpca.org.
Richard Bradley is the editor of Slipstream. He noted
that Amanda, the Slipstream summer intern, has taken
photos for the cover as well as helped out with other design
activities. Speaking of photos (do photos speak? - discuss
amongst yourselves) from a Maverick Region event or from
Porsche Parade or Escape please send these to Richard at
editor@mavpca.org for his review and possible inclusion
into Slipstream.
Our Drivers’ Education equipment manager, Luke Edson,
reported that the equipment was functioning well. In the
end, isn’t that really the most important thing he could have
said?
Christy Payne described the recent social activities in our
region. There were 23 people that attended the Father’s
Day outing at SpeedZone and 17 people that attended the
Porsches and Ponies event at Lone Star Park. Thanks for
putting these together.
Lisa Steele reviewed the formation of the membership
committee which includes Andrea Bell, Tom and Susan
Froehlich, and Monda Hanna. She described the on
boarding process for new members which includes a new
name badge, welcome email, welcome letter, and phone
call. How is that for a personal touch? Now, what about us
existing members who are up for renewal? Well, the process
is fairly similar. I’ll tell you about my experience later this
year! Please contact Lisa at membership@mavpca.org with
any membership questions or referrals.
Linda Bambina has been a member of the Maverick Region
since 1981. Yes, you read that right! She is such a valuable
resource regarding our region’s history. She talked about
the recent Autos in the Park event at the Cooper Clinic.
This was well attended by members from the Maverick
Region. She also described tagline for our 50th anniversary
activities, “Maverick Region: Driving Friendships for 50
Years.” Sounds great to me. What do you think?
Wendy Shoffit noted that the Maverick Region brochures
have been updated and are available now. She also
referenced that membership directories are available for $5
at www.clubregistration.net. She noted that approximately
40 fellow Mavericks are headed to the Porsche Parade in
Savannah, Georgia. Doesn’t that sound like a fun road trip!
Speaking of road trip, Carey reviewed some ideas for a
combined rally and driving tour later this fall. Given the
success of the most recent one, I bet the turnout will be
great. Stay tuned for more details.
In conjunction with Linda’s comments above, Frank Briggs
noted the success of the Autos in the Park event. He also
recognized the number of gifts that Pat Friend obtained
from Boardwalk Porsche. Frank also described plans for
a Show and Shine event this fall. Frank noted that recent
Happy Hours continue to be well attended and the new
