DE 2 and Sunday Drive: MotorSport Ranch 3.1-mile course By Lori Mauthe Maverick Region came out in full force for the April DE event at Motorsport Ranch. We send many thanks to our sponsor, Park Place Porsche and Park Place Motorsports. They showed up in style with a big racing motorcoach hauler to support our participants. They brought a full crew to assist our participants and provide welcome shade in the afternoons. Our day started out with coffee and donuts sponsored by our Region Treasurer Jim Falgout of Falgout & Associates. After the drivers’ Park Place Porsche DE meetings, we took to the fantastic 3.1-mile circuit. We had a full event in the Support in the paddock Green, Blue and Yellow run groups! Travis Howard, our grid master, was busy as were our fabulous instructor teams. Grid sure was a busy place. Photos by Nikolaus Klemmer unless otherwise noted Except, that is, for the time that someone threw up a lot of gravel in a turn – we had all of the Red group in the hot pit lane until the MotorSport Ranch crew quickly swept the corner. Then Joel Nannis (Registrar and Black Flag Steward) released them for more fun. The Red group waiting in the hot pits for a track cleanup Between run sessions, our students were either in class or visiting with other Porsche owners, sharing stories and bench racing while watching. Over lunch time we had visitors both days. On Saturday we hosted 11 matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dallas. Peter Mauthe was their host, and after a drivers’ meeting and visit to the Park Place team, they waited in the grandstand for their turn at Parade Laps. MotorSport Ranch’s covered grid was full to overflowing And so was Big Bend, in the Red (instructor)group! Tom Snodgrass, our “caboose” during lunchtime Parade Laps, leads the way from Raphael Serralta passing Monda Hannah on the inside of the turn, and Mike Brodigan is chasing them down – or did they all just pass him? We’ll never know for sure. But we ran incident-free both days, right on schedule.
