Carey On...
By Carey Spreen, Managing Editor
With the arrival
of November,
even though we
still have more
activities coming
up before 2013
is out, we look
back at the past
year at our annual Founders’ Day
banquet. This year’s Founders’
Day, scheduled for November
2, has probably already taken
place by the time you read this.
In contrast to last year’s extravaganza
celebrating Maverick
Region’s 50th Anniversary, I expect
that this year’s Founders’ Day will
be a return to the more typical
evening of member recognitions,
Board elections, and annual awards,
including our prestigious Richard
Selcer Memorial Award. Oh, yeah,
and a chance to dress up and have
a nice dinner among friends old
and new. I hope that you were able
to make it, and if not, I hope you’ll
consider attending next year.
But as I mentioned, there are still
more events to come before the
year-end holidays arrive. There is
one more Drivers’ Ed event this
year -- the popular one-day event
at MotorSport Ranch, For those
who don’t or can’t commit to
the normal two-day events, this
one is an attractive alternative.
There re three more Time Trials
left, so if you have wondered
about what either type of event are
about, you can still come out to
Mineral Wells to check them out
and avoid the heat that the MineralRing
is sometimes known for.
Perhaps you prefer our Sunday
Drives. There are two more of those
coming up: one to Fort Richardson
State Park in November, and a Toy
Run for our perennial charity, the
Huffaker-Hughes Hope House.
You may also like our social events,
and of course we will continue
those no matter what time of year
it is. Note that we have renamed
our Happy Hour get-togethers to
“Maverick Monthly Socials” so as
to widen the focus and let folks
know that we are not just getting
together for drinks -- there is always
a group that stays for dinner.
And don’t forget about our Holiday
Party on Saturday, December
14 at the home of Linda and Lee
Wilkins. See the ad in this issue or
visit mav.pca.org for more details.
