Saturday Drive: “Lunch on the Square” - The Trek to Granbury

The final Saturday/Sunday
Drive
of the 2015 season
was held on Saturday,
October 17.
Over 50 Porsches
assembled in the
parking lot of the
Walmart Supercenter in Lake Worth
bright and early that morning,
poised for a lively jaunt through the
backroads of the southwest corner
of the Metroplex.
Neill Flood put together a 100-
mile route that stretched from
Lake Worth, through Weatherford,
across the Brazos River into Lipan,
through Bluff Dale and Paluxy, before
ambling into the Town Square
in Granbury.
We couldn’t have ordered better
weather for the drive. At the 9:30

start, the ambient air temperature
was slightly brisk, but as the day
and the drive progressed, the temperature
rose into the mid-70s, with
bright sunshine throughout. Perfect
top-down weather!
The first leg of any drive is typically
dedicated to escaping the congestion
of the suburban sprawl. This
drive was no exception. It wasn’t until
we rolled into the sleepy town of
Lipan that the roads really opened
up and our Porsches could properly
breathe, and the drivers could fully
enjoy the twisties. Lipan was also the
site of our rest stop. One can only
imagine what the people manning
the local gas station/convenience
store thought when 50 Porsches
and 100 people descended upon
their establishment; most of them
patiently waiting to use the one restroom
at the station!
