Concours on the Avenue: To Carmel-by-the-Sea and Back<br />

was busy prepping<br />

a Porsche 928 for<br />

the Carmel concours<br />

event. This<br />

month takes you<br />

through an adventure<br />

they make movies about: four<br />

men over 50, in a van, for a 1500-mile<br />

road trip. My,<br />

The corner in Winslow, AZ<br />

Friday, Aug. 7, we traveled 800<br />

miles via Route 66, staying the night<br />

in Gallup, NM. A rather uneventful<br />

day, but we pushed hard to play the<br />

next day. Saturday, we played tourist<br />

with our first stop in Winslow, AZ.<br />

We took pictures, bought T-shirts,<br />

and literally we literally tried to<br />

“Take it Easy,” “Standing on the corner<br />

in Winslow AZ” paying tribute<br />

to the Eagles.<br />

From Winslow, we traveled to Meteor<br />

Crater, AZ, where 50,000 years<br />

ago a meteor crashed into the earth<br />

leaving a hole a mile wide and eighteen<br />

stories deep. Scientists have<br />

been exploring the site for years,<br />

digging five stories into the crater<br />

for research. NASA even used the<br />

site to simulate a moon walk.<br />

Off to the Grand Canyon. On our<br />

way, it was incredible to see how trees<br />

were literally burned on one side but<br />

not the other from wildfires. As we<br />
