Shifting Gears: Founders’ Day and Another Year is a Wrap

As I sit on the deck of our beach
house listening to the surf and
feeling the breeze, life is good.
You could have had the opportunity
to enjoy this also if you had gone to
Founders’ Day. One of our members
had the winning bid on a weekend
at our beach house. There were several
other very nice items offered in the silent auction
during the event. The proceeds benefit the Huffaker-
Hughes Hope House, one of our charities. Steve Krysil,
of Porsche Cars North America, gave us some interesting
insight into Porsche’s victory at Le Mans. There was
also a display of the photo contest entries which were
very well done, and we were able to vote for the People’s
Choice. There was also excellent food and great camaraderie.
Next year, put the Founders’ Day event on your
calendar as a must-do.
Of course, this is the time of year when there are several
events that require our time and attention: holidays
and end of year activities at work. I want to briefly recap
the successes of your club. As of the end of October, we
had over 2,500 members! Your club is in a very strong
financial position. We have overcome the loss of a significant
member who contributed greatly to our track
events. We have adopted an additional charity, the Boot
Campaign, which helps veterans. Our Drivers’ Education
Program has been successful. We had two successful
Club Races, one at COTA and one at MotorSport Ranch.
Our monthly socials have been very well attended. The
Saturday/Sunday drives have drawn many attendees as
have our monthly socials. Our Rally program has been
successfully revived.
All of these successes have been made possible because
of the time and talents that members have contributed
in each area. Now to make it easier to volunteer,
we have a chairperson for volunteers. So if
someone wants to volunteer and does not know
where they can help, the volunteer chairperson
can guide them. Jim Gallegos is that chairperson.
Next month I will be talking about exciting
programs we are planning for 2016.

As I mentioned earlier, our Rally Program has been
revived. The program takes time and passion to have a
successful rally. Thanks to two of our members who took
on this challenge and made it very successful. Don Sebert
and George Luxbacher have done a great job and
deserve sharing Mav of the Month honors.
