Shifting Gears: Your Club Wants You!

hope you made it out to the All
Member Party on January 24.
Over 250 of our members (and
some guests) did. There were over 123
Porsches for everyone to enjoy viewing:
everything from 356s to a 918.
It was held at the Hackberry Creek
Country Club, which was a very good
venue. We will have that function there again next year.

I even met a couple in the parking lot who belonged to
the club, owned a Porsche, but were not members. They
were so impressed with the party that they are joining
- and they are not the only ones to do so. Maverick Region
was fourth among all PCA regions in new members
in 2014, and we had 30 new members in January.
Joining is the first but not the last step. Next is finding
a activity that you enjoy. We have a variety to choose
from. Please look through Slipstream, our website, and
the calendars to find those you might be interested in.
Then after you have found an activity that you enjoy,
see how you can help making that activity enjoyable for
others. We are a volunteer organization and volunteers
are the heart and soul of it. Plus you will get so much
more enjoyment by participating.
While our region has a variety of activities for our members
to enjoy, there are other PCA activities that you can
enjoy. PCA has a few national events that it sponsors
each year. The most significant one is Parade. Parade
does not always involve a “Parade”, although I understand
that it often does. There are several activities
including organized drives through the countryside,
autocross events, social events, and much more. Best of
all, you get to meet Porsche owners from other parts of
the country. It is being held in French Lick, Indiana this
year from June 21 through June 27. Registration opens
on March 17, so go to www.pca.org to register.
Closer to home, Maverick Region, along with Lone
Star (Houston area) and Hill Country
(Austin area) Regions, is sponsoring a
Club Race and limited Drivers’ Education
event at the COTA track in Austin
on May 8 - 10. The DE is limited to only
advanced classes, so not everyone will
be able to participate, but if you have
never seen that facility, you should go
for this event. It is truly a first class
track and facility. You can be a spectator
or you can volunteer. (Do you detect
a recurring theme in my articles?) Either way
it can be a lot of fun.
So follow the three steps: Look through Slipstream or
the website for activity or activities you might enjoy,
attend some to find those you enjoy the
most, and then help in the running of
those activities. (This is not to say you
cannot enjoy more than one – I certainly
do.)
YOUR CLUB WANTS YOU . . . to get
involved. Come join the fun.
Mav of the Month
I continue to be impressed with the level of passion
and enthusiasm of so many members of your club. It
was really difficult to select one person each month to
commend. This month’s selection
does a lot of his activity behind the
scenes. He has been arranging sponsorship
for our DE’s and Club Race.
When the chairman of the DE committee
has a time conflict with an event,
he steps up and fills the responsibilities
of that position. The Mav of the
Month for March is Daren Kirbo.
Thank you Daren for all that you do.
Your great passion and enthusiasm is a
great example for others.
