Carey On...
By Carey Spreen, Managing Editor
As I write this in mid-February,
the northeastern US is experiencing
record-breaking snowfalls,
while here in the DFW area we
have been basking in 60-70 degree
temperatures, at least during the daylight
hours. While those of us with allwheel-drive
Porsches might want to try
a drive in that New England snow just to see how the
cars deal with the white stuff, it’s nice to know that the
rest of us, whose rear-drive Porsches wait impatiently in
our garages for the driving season to begin, don’t have
much longer to go.
By the time you read this, the first Autocross of the year
in partnership with Equipe Rapide will have taken place
at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. If you missed it, or
are still on the fence about what it’s all about, check out
Autocross Chair Wes Lincoln’s article on page 22. He
answers a lot of questions you might have about what
to expect at one of these very fun, very competitive,
yet very safe driving events. As you have likely heard
before, “every Porsche is a race car,” and there is no
better place to safely learn the limits of your car than
at an Autocross, so come on out this month to see for
yourself. There are two in March (22 and 29), both at
Lone Star Park.
For something a bit more high-speed, the second event
in our Drivers’ Education series takes place the weekend
of March 14-15. If you have wondered what it’s like
to drive your car on a real racetrack at speed, a DE is the
place to be. Your instructor will show you the fastest and
safest way around the track, and you will have a blast
learning how to do it!
If you’re wondering just what it takes to pass a DE Tech
Inspection, you’re in luck. Our Tech Session Chair Ed
Mullenix will be hosting a Tech Session on just that
subject at his shop, Mullenix Motorsport, on Saturday,
March 21. Go see what will pass and what won’t . . .
Sunday Drive Co-Chairs Tom Martin and Neill Flood
also have their inaugural tour this month, starting in
Garland and ending up at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum
at Addison Airport. Should be a fun drive.
We have lots of stuff to do, so try something new!
