Gimme a Minute: January Board Meeting

he meeting began at

7:01 pm with new President
David Robertson
explaining he would
continue the “around the room”
board meeting format. The Zone 5
meeting will be held this year Feb.
17-18 in Grapevine and invited the
board members. It’s a great opportunity
to get to know the region
presidents. He mentioned the upcoming
joint DEs at COTA with the
BMW Club in May and November.
Registration is now open for the
Treffen Hill Country, taking place
3/29 - 4/2. Also coming up is our
All Member Party (AMP) January
28. He would also like to revive our
tech sessions, although we don’t
currently have an event chair. He is
taking suggestions. Andy Kay will do
a detailing one. Several mentioned
ideas to enhance the program.
Treasurer Richard Solomon
joined the meeting via speaker
phone. He is keeping a close tab on
the financial side and will publish
the region’s financial statement in
Slipstream. We have ~$130K in the
bank currently, which is down slightly
from last year. There are some
outstanding invoices needing to be
collected. Expenses were higher
this year, mostly attributable to track
cost increases.
Guests Leslie and Michael Flores
have been in the club for 4 - 5
months. They are looking forward
to becoming more involved.
Social Co-Chair Phyllis Gallegos
has been ill for a few months, but
is feeling better and looking forward
to the upcoming AMP. She
will try very hard to have the entire
front parking lot areas reserved for
Porsches only.
Volunteer Chair Jimmy Gallegos
is always looking for people to help
out, even at the AMP (parking,
check in, etc). He is adding Tech
Session chair to his list of openings.
6 February
Tours Co-Chair Bill Orr has been
working on custom PCA license
plates. We have 291 people who
registered interest out of the 400
needed with only a small effort. He
has worked on updating an interactive
version of Slipstream. The January
issue has had 1300 views already.
Editor Jim Hirsch has been producing
40 page issues for 12 months
now, which only features content
from our members. He is thankful
for that and hope it continues. He
is looking for an editor-in-training.
He reported for Membership Chair
John Hamilton that we have 1,687
primary and 860 affiliate members
for a total of 2,547.
Autocross Chair Mark Schnoerr
reported that our program with
Equipe Rapide will continue for this
year. The BMW club is also looking
to share some events with us, including
the COTA DEs. He wants to
include links to other AX programs
from our website to make sure our
members are informed. The Lone
Star Park venue has been temporarily
lost due to a Cirque du Soleil
show and they are looking for other
sites. He might want to try to do another
Time Trial at MSR on the 1.3
mile course.
Drivers’ Education Chair Chris
Tabor is beginning his fourth year
in that position. He thinks that the
joint region and joint club events at
COTA will be a great opportunity
for all. The DE dates for the year are
set. He mentioned the possibility of
a Track Night and maybe incorporating
a Time Trial event with a DE.
Will visit other events to get ideas.
Rally Chair Don Sebert is glad
to have help from several others,
including George Luxbacher, John
Harvey, and Jeff Sebert. Two rallies
have been set for the year and might
do one more. He will have information
by the All Member Party and
will submit it to the online calendar.
New Vice President Jim Falgout
said that he has insurance handled
for events coming up.
Club Race Registrar Wendy Shoffit
mentioned we had a great Club
Race, despite lower than normal
turnout. We still have some Yeti
mugs for sale, if board members or
others are interested.
Webmaster James Shoffit said we
have been making improvements to
the website. He requested calendar
changes be emailed to calendar@
mavpca.org to make sure all parties
got the information needed.
He questioned if the lunch in Richardson
was still getting attendees;
the answer seems to be “not many.”
Maybe need to cancel that one?
Calendar Chair Karl Poulsen also
reiterated James’ request. He is doing
his best to keep up with requests
as they come up.
Monthly Social Chair Stephanie
Ho has the February Valentine’s
event set for Lavendou Restaurant
in Plano on Thursday, February
9, rather than the normal week. It
might be the last year at the venue.
Slipstream Content Editor and
Punctuation Czar Carey Spreen
mentioned that the digitizing of
all past issues might take a year to
complete, according to UNT. He
also interviewed Al Zim for his 50th
Anniversary this month and will interview
Ed Mayo for his 50th next
month.
Tour Chair Tom Martin reported
that we had five events last year. The
largest had 111 Porsches and 183
people in attendance. Events averaged
70 cars and 114 people. He
commented that the updated mav.
pca.org website is fantastic and recommends
we all visit it. He is stepping
down to allow Bill Orr to take
the reins this year.
