The Advanced Glass Art class builds on the basic techniques<br />

of the beginning glass class, and includes glass fusing and<br />

slumping, mixed media mosaic, and other independent<br />

fabrication projects under teacher direction.<br />

Students keep all artwork they create.<br />

Students may submit portfolios for each course,<br />

but not in the same year. Students may submit<br />

the AP portfolio as their application portfolio<br />

for consideration for acceptance to college<br />

art programs. An AP portfolio rated 3, 4, or 5<br />

may substitute as entry-level college art. See<br />

the Learning Options for Students section<br />

on page 18 for more information about<br />

AP exams, fees and credit transfers.<br />

Fee:<br />

Studio fee varies for basic materials; students<br />

are responsible for all additional material costs,<br />

which vary based on individual portfolios.<br />

The AP Studio Art classes are year-long art courses that<br />

guide students through the process of creating a college<br />

level portfolio of artwork - usually 15-25 pieces. Portfolio<br />

assignments are designed to showcase the breadth and<br />

growth of student skill and knowledge in art, and demonstrate<br />

student voice and creativity through a concentration of<br />

five or more pieces done on one subject or theme. Finished<br />

Porfolios are eligible for college credit when the AP Studio<br />

Art exam is taken. Portfolios are also used for entry into<br />

art programs at the college level. The best quality pieces<br />

from student portfolios can be entered into art shows and<br />

competitions for awards and scholorship opportunities.<br />

Peer tutors work with other students on special objectives<br />

under the supervision of staff to learn about the impact<br />

they can have on others. Peer tutors need to maintain<br />

records of their work, often culminating in a project guided<br />

by a staff member. Students may earn a letter grade.<br />

Students learn and experience the fundamentals of drama<br />

and apply the acquired skills and knowledge to performance<br />

opportunities and learn about the audition process and begin<br />

building a bank of audition pieces. Students study theater<br />

from a historical and cultural perspective and are expected to<br />

perform in a live performance. The goal of Beginning Drama is<br />

to provide students with basic experiences to impart a sense of<br />

poise, confidence, and an enthusiasm for the performing arts.<br />

Intermediate Drama<br />

<strong>Course</strong> may be repeated for credit.<br />

Intermediate Drama develops fundamentals of drama<br />

to greater degrees of challenge and inspiration. Students<br />

will further develop their skills in improvisation,<br />

pantomime, monologues, vocal training, character<br />

development, script analysis, stage movement, blocking,<br />

casting, and group management. Students explore<br />

different styles of theater and continue developing<br />

the bank of audition pieces for live performances.<br />
