Chorus President’s Message 

This 2016-17 Season 

is an exciting one for 

us-the first time in a 

number of years that 

the Palm Springs Gay 

Men’s Chorus has 

presented three “full-chorus” concerts 

in one season! And so we extend a special 

invitation to all the snowbirds who haven’t 

heard the Chorus in our traditional 

December Holiday or Spring concerts.

AdamsArtExpose’ 

ART PALM SPRINGS 2017 

Art Palm Springs was held for the 6th year 

at the Palm Springs Convention Center 

from February 16 - 19. We are fortunate to 

have this yearly event promoted by Urban 

Expositions in conjunction with the Palm 

Springs Art Museum. 

Art Palm Springs provide an opportunity to 

view art works from artists throughout the 

world in a variety of mediums and exhibition 

formats. The works are shown through 

galleries that feature the many artists that 

exhibit at the show. It brings together the 

exhibitors, collectors, and partners in the 

arts. It does provide an opportunity for 

the general public to view and interact 

with artists and gallery officials to see some 

emerging international and local artists as 

well as see prominent art from other eras 

and artists. 

This year one of the new artists collaborators 

that exhibited was the Binh Pho and 

Kevin Wallace. These artists worked together 

to produce very unique and unusual 

works made from blown glass and wood, 

including acrylic paint. Kevin Wallace 

creates the basic shapes of the works and 

Binh Pho continues the design by cutting 

intricate designes into the 

wood pieces and adding the design elements 

to the glass works. 

Another local artists group with an exhibition 

was the “Joshua Treenial 2017: Event 

Horizon”, which will be held from March 

31 to April 2 BoxoHOUSE on Sulivan Road 

in Joshua Tree and other locations around 

Joshua Tree. Bernard Leibov coordinates 

this project in Joshua Tree. Another local 

artist with his own gallery in the Art District 

on Highway 111 was the Rosenberg 

Artist Gallery featured in the Daily Guide 

last year. 

If you have not taken the opportunity to attend 

the Art Palm Springs show it is worth 

putting on your calendar for next year as 

you will see some outstanding world class 

art and meet interesting and creative people 

for about the price of a movie ticket. Next 

week a review of Modernism Week which 

coincides with Art Palm Springs architectural 

and furniture 

designs featured this year.

Amazing, POTUS has a rambling, nonsensical 

press conference, saying his administration 

is a “well-oiled” machine, all the while 

ethics questions multiply on him, his family 

and his appointees. Labor Secretary out, 

National Security Advisor out, his replacement 

- thanks but no thanks. His allies in 

Congress push through an anti-environmentalist 

director for the Environmental 

Protection Administration. 

He makes a speech saying he is all about 

jobs and then delays a federal grant for 

northern CA to help electrify CalTrain, putting 

10,000+ jobs in jeopardy. Other than 

himself, who’s he fooling? 

All this in his first month! 

This past week I travelled to Washington 

with a small group of elected city officials 

to Washington DC to lobby the US Dept of 

Transportation on a $160 million grant for 

SoCA for road and bridge work. The staff 

person we met with had only been on the

She started to say the visit was too early in 

the administration and we had to inform her 

we made the same trip under both Obama 

and Bush Jr and their administrations were 

up and fully functional at the same time. 

We also met with over a dozen members of 

Congress, Republican and Democrat and to 

a person said they had absolutely no clue 

what the Administration was up too. One 

even openly spoke about the President not 

even filling out his term. Hmmmmm 

One of the most disconcerting things 

occurred while there and it was the President’s 

blatant attack on the news media. 

Read shades of Adolph Hitler and Josef 

Stalin and Victor Chavez. Even a Fox News 

anchor had to lash back at the President. 

The administration’s actions on immigration 

are already being felt in the Coachella 

Valley. ICE agents have been conducting 

raids in the valley including Cardenas 

supermarket in Cathedral City. CCPD did 

not nor will they participate in such actions. 

City Council policy is we are an inclusive 

city and value all residents regardless of 

national origin or immigration status. 

Sad times for Palm Springs with the indictments 

against Mayor Pougnet and Messrs 

Wessman and Meaney. I won’t comment 

as Steve is a friend but my heart goes out 

to him, Chris and the kids. It is now even 

more criticL that the PS Council and staff 

buckle down and focus on completing projects 

underway so as not to create a blight in 

the downtown. 

That’s it for this week. It’s our responsibility 

to keep moving forward and RESIST! 

Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in Cathedral 

City. He has made his name in governmental circles 

as an expert in transportation issues and is very active 

in working on bringing passenger rail service to the 

COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly gay 

elected city council members In Riverside County. He 

has served on the boards of the National League of 

Cities and the League of California Cities and as President 

of the Southern CA Association of Governments.
