NormalisationRules 143 7.6 NormalisationRules UML,asagenericmodellinglanguage,lacksconstructstosupportitsapplicationinthedomainofSMCsystems.Thismakesthat,whenusing‘plain’UML,variousdesignidiomsareavailableforhandlingSMCconcerns.Forinstance,guards(e.g.,‘subsystemisavailable’)wereoftenmodelledasevents(e.g.,‘subsystembecomesavailable’)althoughthesearefundamentallydifferent. Similarly,manufacturingactivitiescanbespecifiedasactionson statetransitionsorasactionsinseparatestates.Thisidiomdiversityisfuelledfurtherbytoollimitations.Forinstance,toolsthatsupportaspecific UMLversion,donotnecessarilysupportallofitsconstructs. Todefinearchitecturetransformations,weneedsourcemodelsinanormalisedform. Thesenormalisedmodelsareassociatedwithametamodel thataddsconstraintstothelegacysourcemetamodelandaugmentsitwith SMC-specificconstructs. Theseconstraintsandadditionalmodelelements areusedinwell-formednessrulesthatprescribehowtospecifySMC-specific concerns.Forthis,UMLallowsattachingconstraintstomodelelementsusingOCL,andforthedefinitionofadditionalmodelelementsbystereotypes. Together,theseenablethedefinitionofasuitableUML-SMCprofileforthe normalisedsourcemetamodel.ExamplediagramsthatconformtothisprofileareshowninFigures7.7onpage148and7.8onpage149. Normalisedsourcemodelshavetocomplytoasetofwell-formedness rules. Mostimportantly,concernshavetobespecifiedinauniformway. WehavedefinedastandardisedidiomfortheconcernsasidentifiedinSection7.3.3.WeintroducethisidiombyexampleofFigures7.7onpage148and7.8onpage149.Normalisationinvolvesmodifyingsourcemodelstoremoveanyviolationofthesewell-formednessrules.Notethat,duetothediversityoftheidiomsusedinthesourcemodels,normalisationisperformed manuallyinourcasestudy. Table7.1onthefollowingpageliststhestereotypesthatwedefineas partoftheSMCprofile.Nexttostereotypes,theprofilealsodefinesanumberofconstraints.Listing7.1onthenextpagelistssomeoftheseconstraints,specifiedinOCLasinvariantsovertheUMLmetamodel(C1-C4).Wemerelyusetheconstraintsindicatedbythedefkeywordtodefineextrapropertiesontheelementsmentionedintheircontext.Thissimplifies thespecificationofotherconstraints.Applicationofthesestereotypesand constraintsisdiscussedbelow. Intuitively,thenormalisationiscontextdependentandrequires(some) domainknowledge.Moreover,thenormalisationrulesnotonlydependon thespecificsourceparadigmbutalsoonthemodellingconventionsasencounteredinthespecific(industrial)migrationcontext.Therefore,weillustratethenormalisationstepbydefiningtheusedcontext-specificnormalisationrulesforourcasestudy.
