The Alaska sequel - the icing on the cake<br />
The Canada/Alaska route<br />
Although the Pan America Highway trip<br />
formally finished in Vancouver, we were<br />
fortunate to have the irrepressible Mike<br />
Herlihy with us who had long nurtured the<br />
childhood dream to one day travel from one<br />
end of the Americas to the other. Initially<br />
sceptical about whether we would still<br />
have the appetite for driving long distances<br />
after completing the 30,000 kilometres to<br />
Vancouver, we equivocated. But then as<br />
we got closer to Vancouver we both realised<br />
we didn’t want the adventure to end. So<br />
RIP and Blue B were easily seduced into<br />
following Shiraz on a magical drive along<br />
the Alaska Highway, through the Yukon and<br />
eventually to arrive in Skagway, Alaska.<br />

When it comes to claiming bragging rights<br />
for having driven from bottom to top of the<br />
American continent, we are on very thin ice<br />
(pun intended) because we only managed a<br />
handful of kilometres into Alaska itself.<br />
But of course that won’t stop us . . .<br />
