The CANAL+ Group was the main co-producer of Roman
Polański’s The Pianist.
The company’s portfolio included projects undertaken
individually and in co-operation with other partners, such as
TVP. Since 2005, Canal+ has produced 22 feature films,
including Persona Non Grata, Ode To Joy, Saviour’s Square,
Extras, Retrieval, Hope, Tricks, Strawberry Wine, Drzazgi,
and To nie tak jak myślisz, kotku. In recent years Canal+ has
also produced more than 20 documentaries and short films.
Every year CANAL+ supports national film festivals, such as
the Era New Horizons Festival and the Polish Film Festival in
Gdynia.

Home Box Office, America’s leading premium television
network, established in 1972, opened its first field office in
Central Europe in 1991 and in Poland in 1996. HBO Central
Europe is owned by Home Box Office Inc., Disney’s Buena
Vista International Television and Sony Pictures Television
International / Columbia Tri-Star. HBO is now available in
most cable TV networks and on all digital platforms in
Poland. HBO brings the biggest blockbusters, award-winning
original series, cutting edge documentaries, exclusive
events and the biggest stars directly to viewers’ homes.
In 2006, HBO began to produce documentaries in Poland,
some of which, like Marcin Koszałka and Jacek Bławut, have
gained recognition at various film festivals. Encouraged by
this success, the station has already announced a number of
promising documentary projects. HBO also supports the
Krakow Film Festival.

Television Kino Polska is the only TV channel focusing on
Polish films and the first private TV broadcaster financed
entirely by Polish capital. The station broadcasts Polish
feature films, documentaries and animated films,
newsreels, independent productions, as well as
programmes on filmmakers and the film industry.

Telewizja Polska SA (TVP) is a state-owned company and by
law the only public TV broadcaster in Poland. It consists of
the following channels: TVP1 (Jedynka) – addressed to the
general public; TVP2 (Dwójka) – culture and entertainment;
and TVP Info, with programmes prepared locally; TV Polonia
– a satellite channel broadcasting programmes for Poles
living abroad; TVP Kultura – a channel on general cultural
issues; and finally TVP Historia and TVP Sport. In September
2008, TVP HD was launched, broadcasting feature films,
documentaries, series, children’s shows and sports.
Telewizja Polska SA is the largest film producer in Poland;
the agency responsible for film production in TVP is the TVP
SA Film Agency; the Office for International Co-operation is
responsible for co-production projects. However, some
productions are undertaken directly by particular channels,
i.e. TVP1 or TVP2.
