the film fund<br />

The Gdynia Film Fund was established by the mayor of Gdynia in September 2008. The municipal authorities have<br />

placed the administration of the fund in the hands of the cultural organization called Centrum Kultury w Gdyni.<br />

The first competition for the support of film production was announced in min-January <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

Before the Film Fund was established, the municipal authorities of Gdynia had already co-financed the production<br />

of Miasto z morza by Andrzej Kotkowski. This film is based on a novel that tells the story of how the city was<br />

established. It will premiere during the next edition of the Polish Film Festival, which takes place annually in Gdynia.<br />

Budget<br />

The Film Fund has an annual budget of at least 700,000<br />

PLN (182,000 EUR). Funding is available to one or more<br />

projects and the amount of funding may vary between<br />

projects. The municipal authorities have stated that,<br />

depending on the success of produced films, the budget of<br />

the Film Fund in future years will continue to increase.<br />

entry Conditions<br />

The Film Fund provides support for feature and<br />

documentary projects. Preference is given to projects that<br />

directly promote the city of Gdynia, its landscape, history or<br />

related maritime themes and have a positive impact on the<br />

local market.<br />

A key condition is the timely application for financing<br />

and compliance with requirements as specified in the<br />

regulations of the Gdynia Film Fund. Other conditions<br />

include the subject matter and range of promoting the city<br />

during production and distribution of the film. The artistic<br />

merit of the project is also taken into consideration.<br />

At time of this publication, the first edition of the<br />

competition is open. The deadline for applications is February<br />

28 th , <strong>2009</strong>. The results will be announced by May 30 th , <strong>2009</strong>.
