PCA Tours Preview: The Fortunata Winery Tour
By Bill Orr, Region PCA Tour Co-Chair
he third PCA Tour of the season takes us
T
to Fortunata Winery in Aubrey, Texas. The
winery was the destination of the Halloween
Gimmick Rally last fall, and the participants
liked it so much we decided to add it to the PCA Tours
schedule this year.
It’s a little bit of Tuscany in
Texas. The main building is set
in the woods with a front and
back patio area, so you can have
a great glass of wine and enjoy
some authentic Italian food. We
have chosen Saturday, May 20
for this tour, and the weather
forecast is sunny with temperatures
in the low to mid 80s. It should be a perfect day to
go for a drive and enjoy some authentic Italian cuisine.
The tour starts at Westgate
Shopping Center on
US 75 at West Louisiana
Street in McKinney at 10
am. We will travel north,
then west, and then
south down to Aubrey.
It’s about a 72-mile trip
that ends at Fortunata
Winery (http://www.fortunatawinery.com)
for
lunch. We should arrive
at the winery sometime
around 1 pm. In addition
to its wine, Fortunata
Winery is known for
its brick oven pizzas, but
due to our large group
they have opted to offer
Maverick members have
made full use of the great
patio area at the winery
an Italian buffet with either a Vegetarian Lasagna or
Italian Pasta. Both come with bread and a side salad.
So stay for lunch, or if you prefer, just do a little wine
tasting. Cheese boards are also available.
If you are not interested in staying for lunch, there
are many independent and chain restaurants in the
area. The winery is located just a few miles north of US
Highway 380. It’s 11 miles from downtown Denton, 16
miles from Frisco, and 23 miles from downtown McKinney.
If you plan to attend the Tour, it is imperative that
you RSVP beforehand. When you RSVP, it gives us an
accurate count to alert the managers of the winery so
that they can be prepared. Additionally, three days
before the Tour, you will receive an e-mail with the following
attachments: a Garmin .gdb file of the route, a
route overview, and turn-by-turn instructions. Register
at: http://mav.pca.org/go/tours.
As always, there will be many opportunities for photographs
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to
send me an email at tours@mavpca.org. I hope to see
you and your Porsche at the Fortunata Winery Tour! If
you can’t make it, be sure to check out our schedule of
future tours at http://mav.pca.org/go/tours.
