Chapter 7 § Operating Requirements
▪ except when taking off or landing, the distance of the helicopter from the surface is not less than 500
feet.
Uncontrolled Airspace
Where operations are conducted at or above 1,000 feet AGL:
§ during the day, flight visibility is not less than 1 mile;
§ during the night, flight visibility is not less than 3 miles; and,
§ distance of the aircraft from cloud must not be less than 500 feet vertically and 2,000 feet horizontally.
Where operations are conducted at less than 1,000 feet above AGL:
§ during the day, flight visibility is not less than 1 mile;
§ during the night, flight visibility is not less than 3 miles; and,
§ the aircraft is operated clear of cloud.
The aircraft may be flown in visibility as low as 1/2 mile during the day in uncontrolled airspace. Refer to section
7.7.5 – VFR Flight Minimum Visibility – Day VFR in Uncontrolled Airspace.
Special VFR day and night weather limits require that:
§ the helicopter is operated clear of cloud and with visual reference to the surface at all times;
§ the flight visibility is not less than ½ mile;
§ the aircraft is equipped with radio communication equipment capable of maintaining communication with
the appropriate air traffic control unit; and,
§ authorization for SVFR must be requested and obtained from the appropriate air traffic control unit.
7.7.3 Night VFR Flights
The Company has approval to operate 702 VFR flights at night. Refer to Chapter 9 – Aerial Work Operations. The
Company does not have approval to operate 703 VFR flights at night.
7.7.4 Night VFR Aerodrome Requirements
During night VFR operations, landings will only be made at the following:
§ airports certified and illuminated for night operations; or,
§ heliports certified and illuminated for night operations; or,
§ aerodromes which meet the approved lighting requirements.
