“BEANO” - 10 June 2001 - 3 March 2017
Beano entered our lives during the August bank holiday weekend in 2001. He is
what turned out to be an expensive non bike ride in the Peak District.
We had been making enquires about having a dog. On this particular day in August
2001, we had taken some time off work to ride the Tissington Trail. Just as the bikes
were loaded onto the car, the postman arrived with information of breeders that had
got pups for sale.
We headed off towards the Peak District, and in true form of the British weather it was
raining when we arrived. What shall we do with ourselves?
Some bright spark in the car said shall we go to look at some dogs? A few phone calls
later, and we have tracked some pups down in Scunthorpe.
We headed over to Scunthorpe, and were introduced to “Trentdale Tally” Money
changed hands, and “Trentdale Tally” came home with us. Arriving back home with a
dog, and the bikes hadn’t even been taken off the car.
“Trentdale Tally” was soon renamed “Beano” after the comic. (Lyn had, had a Border
Terrier when she was younger. His name was Dandy).
“Beano” first went camping in the summer of 2005 when we purchased our Conway
Corniche. After several outings on our own we joined the Conway Owners Club.
“Beano” attended his first rally at the AGM at York in 2006. Lyn, Beano, and myself
enjoyed the rally, and as they say the rest is history.
“Beano” attended most rallies with us, but occasionally we would attend without him,
and were always asked “where is Beano?”
Most people who met “Beano” will have their own memories of his cheerful, and loving
character.
Unfortunately his life took a turn for the
worse in October 2015 when he suffered
a stroke. His mobility was a problem, but
he still enjoyed the camping life.
After a short illness during February 2017
took a toll on his life, and he passed away
peacefully on the 3rd March 2017.
RIP “Beano”
Gone but will never be forgotten
Further pictures of Beano will be placed in the Members’ Area on the website
