am pleased to be able to publish in this issue of Contours an article ‘Driving in Europe. What Do We Need to Know’ produced by Alan Young that summarises all the advice you need if you are thinking of making your first trip towing your unit abroad. On a personal level we missed the Easter Rally this year as we have been away on an extended visit to the USA (for 5 weeks – its great being retired!) where Anneka our younger daughter was married in Las Vegas in front of the 40 friends and relatives who had made the long journey over there – what a week S N S cot At last winter is over and spring is in the air, the weather is improving and the camping season has begun. We & attended Br the Easter rally held at Sysonby Acres in Melton Mowbray, it was lovely to see so many new members and to spend time with everyone else. Contours Northern Region News Michelle and Roy Tuxford are holding a “Club Meet” at Matlock in July/August, the details are in this magazine. Kath and 6 that was and such a proud dad I was! Whilst we were over there Sue and I spent two weeks driving along Route 66 from Chicago to Las Vegas and visited New Orleans, Memphis (including Graceland) and Nashville. What a trip and holiday that has been. Mitch, our man of many talents, has produced a video on the Easter Rally at Melton Mowbray. To find it go in to youtube and search for Conway Easter rally 2017. There is also a link on the website in the Rally Videos section - I especially enjoyed the guest performance by Status Quo. Many thanks Mitch. Tony Burrett Ken Prince are marshalling a rally at in Riddings Wood near Derby in September, again details in this magazine. Jim and I are looking forward to the AGM at the Lawns at the end of May, if you have never been to an AGM rally before, you don’t know what you are missing. At the AGM meeting you can have your say, as to how you would like your club to be run, after all you are it’s members and the club is run by members for members. M N S cot Contours Midlands News The Easter rally at Melton Mowbray was very well attended but on reflection Easter is always a popular choice for & Br most members getting out with their units. Over the years we have been to many different locations for Easter, and for Melton this was our second time. And because of its popularity we have pencilled in a booking for next year with Easter Sunday falling on April Fool’s Day. Some might say that’s a bit too early but again if you look back at the weather we have had recently early April was warmer then what we had during this Easter. On the whole it was dry but there was a 7 biting cold wind blowing. Any way that’s enough about the weather. It was a pleasure as always to provide some entertainment during the rally which puts a smile on everyone’s face and some a few bob in their pockets by playing my crazy bingo. Many thanks for all who attended the rally I do hope to see you and many others again soon at the AGM and Riddings Wood Oh, I almost forgot, Paul Kemp and my quiz theme at the AGM on the Monday evening theme is America. So please dress appropriately, it will be a name game quiz with a prize to the best dressed American. Chris Packington The End of an Era - Contours last paper edition Over the past few years the membership has been gradually decreasing whilst at the same time the cost of producing a magazine and the postage has been increasing. During this time the club’s finances have been dwindling and the committee have held numerous discussions on how to ensure the financial future of the club. We have been paying out around £400 for each issue of the magazine and for a small club with now only around 120 members this is a huge millstone. It was therefore decided at the 2016 AGM that the membership would be asked on their views about the magazine going digital and an overwhelming majority backed the committee’s suggestion that this be done. It was agreed that because of advertising we would not be able to convert until the end of all the advertising contracts which meant that we would need to continue until this edition. There are now only 1 or 2 members who do not have access to computers of one sort or another so in this very electronic age this is the time for change. Of course we will continue to provide those members who do not have access with paper copies but these will be printed from the online version. So now our thoughts must turn to how we go about the digital version – it will still be called Contours and will be published in the members’ area of the website. At this stage we are still researching which software will be the best to use in order to make the magazine interesting and also to enable it to be put together easily. Of course whether it is paper or digital, articles will still be needed so you can rest assured that we will be chasing as before.
