PRIDE AND PROTEST IMAGES FROM L.A. PRIDE
2017
1970 was the first Los Angeles Pride Parade.
That parade that year was very anarchist
in theme. At that time police brutality was
rampant against the LGBTQ community.
There was even a warning from the L.A.
police that there could be violence against
the participants.
As we move into the Trump era, artists of
all categories will be helping carry on the
battle for equal recognition of diversity for
the LGBTQ community as well as other
persecuted groups.
Questions, comments, suggetions, contact
- adamsartexpose@gamail.com
There have been many hard-won positive
gains in recognition for the LGBTQ community
over the past decades however with
the election of Donald Trump and his appointment
of homophobic, racist, bigoted
hate mongers to his cabinet it was the decision
of L.A. PRIDE that this year should be
devoted to a RESIST MARCH. Thousands
of people filled the streets of Hollywood
and West Hollywood last Sunday as a reminder
that what has been gained will not
be lost.
Biron the photographic artist who was featured
in this article last year was busy at the
parade capturing images of what PRIDE is
all about.
anywhere on famed Hollywood Boulevard
and you’ll certainly see a number of stars...
Well on the sidewalk, that is, the people on
the side walk are probably not stars.
The Walk of Fame was inaugurated in 1960
when 2,500 blank stars were placed along
the main thoroughfare. Since that time,
more than 2,300 have been emblazoned
with the names of famous personalities
who’ve left their mark in the fields of radio,
television, motion pictures, recording, and
live performance. A small symbol on each
star indicates for which field the person is
The week we were there, Ice Cube was
We did walk by the Museum of Broken
Relationships because the temp was beautiful
and everything was going so well on
its own. And we did not want to push our
luck. It was the same reason we skipped the
We also missed Ripley’s Believe It or Not,
the back of the courtyard are open the general
You can stay on the strip, at the historic
#1 Pokemon Port of Vermilion City
Traditional Ukiyo-e Woodblock
Print
$450.00 Pokemoncenter.com
Developed during the Edo period,
these Japanese woodblock prints have
a long tradition and require a team
of artists to produce. Most feature
famous people, such as samurai or
kabuki actors, or famous landscapes,
like the 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō.
An artist draws the image, a sculptor
painstakingly carves that as a series
of wooden boards (one for each
color of ink used), and a printer uses
those boards to create a layered print
matching the original art. The result
is a remarkable woodblock print in
full color, heaped with the charm and
character of a period piece.
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by jersey Shore
I sit here with my laptop open. I write
about whatever wants to spew from my
crazy mind. Yet, I’m not doing it in fashionable
clothing with a Cosmo in one hand
and a cigarette in the other. I’m naked,
sweating in my bed with a joint in one
hand and my dog licking me on the other.
Which isn’t bad, but it’s not Hollywood.
They want that trend factor.
Is it shameful to be a bottom? Assumedly
this question is for Men? Maybe? Does
being a bottom mean you are the woman?
I’ve always despised the whole “Who is
the Man and who is the woman?” in a Gay
relationship. Well, we are both men, so I
guess there is no woman. And as for “Who
does the fucking?” Do you seriously think
that is a clue into masculinity? Why can’t
you just have a healthy sex life and poke
hole or two? Or don’t poke a hole. Maybe
suck a pole? Have a multiple pole party.
Stop the labels. Except for that famous shoe
label telling people to just do it.
Everybody is so concerned about what
other people think of them. That same old
story, but yes, you can’t proudly announce
you’re a bottom, but in bed it all about the
bass. I’m confused. It’s embarrassing to be
at “that” place, but you are there? It’s the
“H” word I didn’t want to use.
Shitting is embarrassing and you can’t get
caught buying toilet paper in bulk. Really,
did your anus close up? People are way
too consumed of what others think. Stop
thinking about what they think. Think
about what you think. Think for yourself.
You’ll be a much stronger and independent
person. Oh, and while I’m at it. Imitation
may be the highest form of flattery, but if I
see one more drag queen trying to steal my
moves and my way of working the audience,
I’ll just say, it sucks to be you, because
you are not me. I don’t need to copy anyone.
I am an original. That’s why I’m still
relevant. People can see right through you
and it’s sad. Better you than I.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Well the drama continues in DC. The President
AND the Vice President have both hired
private attorneys. Even President Trump’s
attorney has hired an attorney!! The Son-
In-Law Jared Kushner has hired an attorney.
Maybe this is what Trump said about putting
America back to work!?!?!
In addition to being investigated over the
Russia incursion into our election now it has
been confirmed that Trump is being investigated
for obstruction of justice. His financial
records have been subpoenaed. Kushner’s
finances are being investigated.
Not even Nixon had this many issues going
on.
While all this is going on, the Senate leadership
is writing a new healthcare bill totally
in secret. No Democrats on the negotiating
team and even worse, no women! Get ready
to be screwed BIG time and this time without
lube!
The Department of Commerce has removed
LGBT protections from their nondiscrimination
statement.
fruition. This next week there will be special
elections in Georgia and South Carolina for
members of Congress. It will be interesting to
see who wins in these races.
Locally grumbling continues about Cathedral
City declaring itself a Sanctuary City, while
activists are beginning to look towards Coachella
as the second community to self-identify.
Even with being the county’s first Sanctuary
City, crime continues to decline, property
values continue to rise, the nonprofit sector
increases and the city is looking at ways to
help its homeless population and to increase
opportunities for recreation activities for its
youth. In fact, there is a free Friday morning
movie day for children all summer at the
Mary Pickford Theater. Check out www.discoverCathedralCity.gov
if you have a little one
of your own or a nephew or niece you might
want to treat to day out.
Keep your eyes out for information on a local
day of Resistance to be held at the Cathedral
City Civic Center on Labor Day, September 4.
Until then, keep on resisting.
All this and the Administration hasn’t even
reached their first six month anniversary.
Simply amazing.
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in
Cathedral City. He has made his name in
I just left a meeting in Detroit with the Democratic
National Committee. Kudos to the
governmental circles as an expert in transportation
issues and is very active in working
on bringing passenger rail service to the
new party Chair, Tom Perez and Deputy COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly
gay elected city council members In River-
Chair Keith Ellison for the turnaround in the
party that is taking place. Unity is building side County. He has served on the boards of
and organization, training and an emphasis the National League of Cities and the League
of California Cities and as President of the
on an on-going 50 state strategy is coming to
Southern CA Association of Governments.
