The Alexandra School of Ballet was established in 1949 to provide professional
ballet training for students. Over the years, classes in character, modern and variations
have been added. The goal of the school has always been to develop a sound technique
and cultivate an appreciation of dance in every student,
whether hopes are for a professional career or for cultural
enrichment and enjoyment.
The faculty has been selected with great care and have
had the finest possible training. Technique is carefully
structured in order to produce students who have the
strength, flexibility and style necessary should they
decide to pursue a career in dance.
Many students have become teachers. Others have
appeared on and off Broadway or have danced with
various national and international companies, such as
Alexandra Zaharias, founder Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, American Ballet Theatre, New
York Metropolitan Opera Ballet and many more.
Alexandra Zaharias is the Director of Alexandra School of Ballet, and Artistic Director
of Alexandra Ballet Company. She received her early training in St. Louis from Isabella
Rainford and continued her studies at the School of American Ballet in New York City
under the legendary George Balanchine. She attended the National Academy of Ballet,
under the direction of Thalia Mara, renowned teacher, author and founder of the U.S.
International Ballet Competition. Alexandra is a member of the National Society of Arts
and Letters, and founding member of Regional Dance America MidStates.
