This is Barry the Lurcher who was collected by Furry
Friends Animal Rescue (UK) on 14th July 2017.
Barry had been abandoned in a phone box in Coulsdon,
Surrey and was found by a local ladies daughter (well
spotted!). She was directed to us when local services
could not help.
Barry went straight to the emergency vets and was given
strong pain relief and diagnosed with a badly broken
shoulder caused by blunt force trauma (probable car
accident).
He had old healing injuries where he would have scraped
along the road and the vet said that he had probably been
left for 1 - 2 weeks without seeing a vet and when he
finally collapsed, they dumped him.
The following day Barry travelled to the vet for a potential
emergency amputation, but after 24 hours on a drip, he
surprised us all by hobbling about.
Xrays were sent to an osteo specialist who confirmed that
VERY luckily for Barry, he would heal naturally given time
and tlc.
Bleeding to the lungs was also picked up which will also
heal over time, but was causing slightly laboured breathing.
Barry was castrated whilst he was under anaesthetic
as we did not want to put him under again any time soon.
Barry is being kindly
fostered by a lady
who has adopted a
lurcher from us in the
past and will stay
there until he is well.
We are not planning
any potential new
homes just yet as he
has a long road for
recovery to go.
Barry highlights how
important getting
medical attention for
your pets is. Serious
incidents such as car
accidents cause
serious internal
damage. It is vital that your pet sees the vet or that you
seek help.
There are vets locally who do help with low cost vet
treatment for those on benefits.
Owning a pet is an expensive commitment. They are
completely reliant on you for their wellbeing.
of other dogs. They are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
and give them the time and the care they need please call
