Career Advice from Experts : Part Three
Writing the perfect Cover Letter
On average, employers spend 30 seconds
looking at covering letters so you need to entice
the employer to want to know more about you,
to want to read your CV and to invite you for
interview.
Below shows a suggestion of how to organise
your cover letter and what to include:
Opening Paragraph
Make it short, concise and state why you are
writing. If someone has put you forward for this
position, detail it here. Introduce yourself briefly
to show that your application is relevant to
the job vacancy. i.e. I have just graduated from
Portsmouth University with a 2:1 in Mechanical
Engineering and wish to apply for the Project
Engineer position advertised in LocalJobFrog.
co.uk
Paragraphs 2-3
Why should the employer choose you? Without
duplicating your CV, outline briefly the skill
set that you bring to the role, your academic
qualifications and your experience to date that
matches the job requirements. Ensure you
cross-reference the skills required (detailed
in the job advert) with the skills you possess.
Personalise the application by suggesting how
the company will benefit from having you as a
member of their team.
Food, Health And Hygiene
For Your New Hamster
Hamsters are very sensitive
creatures, so when you bring
home your new pet, it’s a good
idea to leave them to settle in
for a few days. They need to
feel safe and secure, and not
disturbing them too much will
also help them become familiar
with their new surroundings.
Along with maintaining hygienic
living conditions, diet plays
an important part in your
hamster’s day-to-day health, so
what should you feed them?
Best foods for your hamster
Quality ready-mixed hamster
food or pellets are available
in good pet stores and
supermarkets, and are a simple
way to ensure your hamster
receives the nutrients it needs.
If you know the type of food
they were given previously, it’s
a good idea to carry on with
the same regime to prevent
upsetting their digestive
system.
Hamsters also enjoy fresh fruit
and vegetables, but fruit
should be given in
tiny quantities as
too much sugar can
cause diabetes.
A small piece of
carrot, apple, or
cucumber once or
Closing paragraph
Finish your cover letter with a request for action,
requesting an interview with the employer e.g.
‘I welcome the opportunity to discuss my
experience in more detail.’ If you know the
addressee, you can end the letter with ‘Yours
sincerely’ or use ‘Yours faithfully’ if you don’t.
Don’t forget to include an enclosures line at the
bottom if you have enclosed anything with the
letter, such as your CV.
Health and hygiene
Your hamster’s cage should
be cleaned thoroughly once a
week with a safe disinfectant
- more often in the area used
as a toilet if they don’t have a
litter tray. Hamster litter trays
are very useful, particularly for
smaller cages, and help your
pet to stay clean. If you put a
little of the old, dry bedding
back in the cage, they’ll also be
surrounded by their own scent,
feeling safer as a result.
