Vivien's "Show Off" shows that you can make your own work of art using time, skill and some photographic software. "I cropped the image to make a letterbox concentrating on the fisherman and boat. Then I lowered the distant mountain range for a better composition effect and made the sky white. I removed any unnecessary detail (water ripples, detail in the net etc) leaving just the mountain tops and a faint line for the horizon. Finally I applied an "Artistic/Watercolour" filter." Fortunately it worked..... During summer recess we meet informally each Tuesday evening in a local pub so why not come along for chat? If so, do you know how important it can be for wildlife? In the UK private gardens cover over 3½ times the total area of RSPB reserves. This means that the small tract of land you control can make a difference in the greater scheme of things. You can help to give nature a home. And a garden for wildlife does not mean having a wild garden. Indeed, overgrown gardens may have less wildlife than ones we might like to visit to admire their colourful borders and large variety of plants. Think what you might like in your own garden. Flowers giving a riot of colour from spring to autumn will attract a range of pollinators. Trees and shrubs, especially those that bear berries in autumn will provide food for birds. A pond, even a small one, could be quickly occupied by amphibians and dragonflies. Close cut lawns may not be havens of wildlife, but why not leave an area of longer grass that could become a mini meadow. It also about how gardens are managed. You could use lots of ant killer, but a Green Woodpecker is a good natural alternative. Likewise, instead of slug and snail killer, how about a Song Thrush? A log pile in an out of the way corner of the garden can provide a home for many creatures. You can contribute to saving wildlife by looking after your tiny part of planet Earth.
