Australia’s Marina Industries Association
(MIA) has announced the finalists for its
Club Marine Marina awards 2017/18.
MIA president, Andrew Chapman
CMM, congratulated all finalists and
entrants, commenting that “the awards
celebrate industry best practice and provide
a benchmark for other businesses to aspire to.”
Simon McLean, Club Marine’s CEO, said the growth in participation
once again was excellent. “As an industry insurer we see the awards as an
effective vehicle to encourage and promote good business practices and
procedures as well as supporting the goals of the MIA.”
Abell Point’s general manager, Luke McCaul, said of the marina’s award:
“I’m incredibly proud of our entire team. They drive the business every day,
with a customer focus and a shared vision of excellence.” Since coming
under new ownership in 2013, the marina has undergone a A$17 million
development including upgrades to shore-based facilities, the launch
of a waterfront wedding/conference venue, the upgrade of superyacht
facilities to accommodate vessels up to 70m, the introduction of concierge
services, the installation of two private helipads and the upgrade of marina
buildings, grounds and gardens, including development of a 2.5 hectare
community parkland within the marina facility.
Of its community support initiative award, Port Denarau said it had
assisted and worked closely with Sea Mercy US since its inception and,
in December 2015, became the founding partner of Sea Mercy (Fiji). A
registered charity with a vision and mission to “stand in the gap” with
service delivery vessels, trained volunteers, support equipment and
services, it aims to help island nation partners develop their “outer island”
