Home Cooling Solutions
Multiple Room Cooling Eliminates
the Heat and Humidity
Most central air units struggle to get cool air to the upstairs on summer
days. You can install a window unit, but they’re noisy, lack proper temperature
controls, and bulge out of what is often the only window in the room. Split duct air conditioners
are a multi-room thermostat controlled cooling solution for homes with and without existing HVAC. Each room
has it’s own remote control and thermostat and they are whisper quiet. The interior units are so slim they just fade into the
background, like they’ve always been there. One quiet compressor can feed multiple interior units, all with their own remote and thermostat.
For an existing house with no existing ductwork, there is very little reason to consider a ducted system. The only advantage is aesthetics. With
a ducted system, you only see supply and return grilles in the room. With a ductless system, in most cases you see the indoor unit hanging
on the wall. They also make ceiling cassettes which look a little nicer, and concealed units that require short pieces of ductwork. Ductless is
cheaper and more efficient. If you are okay with the way they look in the room, that’s the way to go.
International landscape architecture firm SWA has
created the first community supported agricultural
master-plan in the Houston region, Harvest Green,
promoting healthy ecosystems through low impact
development, natural systems restoration, and edible
plant communities. This 1,300 acre development
features a community farm, waterways, and parks as
interconnected systems through miles of hike and bike
trails, local farm-fresh food, and agriculture based social
events. Harvest Green will also include an agrarian
village showcasing local curated goods, farm to table
dinners, culinary classes, and a community farm co-op.
Unity Park Design Initiative, another community project
by SWA, fosters a collaborative effort to break the cycle
of homelessness through designing accessible public
spaces organized to facilitate weekly meal service to
the homeless, group gatherings, and an open pavilion
to host group gatherings for classes and programs
that meet the needs of a diverse pursuit of skill sets
necessary for acquiring employment. In 2017, the Dallas
Arboretum and Botanical Garden will include A Tasteful
Place, a food garden spanning two-acres, packed with
fruit, herbs, and vegetables. The garden will also include
an orchard, vineyard, and flower beds.
