Mr. CCBC Leather 2018, Jax Kelly
Who writes “Being in a leather contest has
been my “coming out.” Hopefully the last in
a long line. I am grateful for the support I’ve
received from so many people. I have the
confidence and self-respect to wear leather
and my title with my head up high and to
act as role model for others in the community.”
on his blog jaxkellypsp.tumblr.com
Scheduled
Mr Barracks contest weekend
Aug 25,25,27
Mr Tool Shed Contest
Sept 16
What to expect?
Right off the bat some in the LGBT refuse
to understand a leather contest and that’s
why they should attend. They claim “Oh
this or that sucks” Not just the gay community,
but people in general. I love these people
because when they finally do go, they
get a better understanding of family that
exists within the community. Many people
wear leather for different reasons, this writer
belongs to a leather organization that most
don’t know and when we meet its like two
boats passing with a casual wave. But within
that is a commitment the community we
serve and something larger still. You see,
it is not easy being in leather. You are representing
a higher standard. Your person
must be unsullied and willing to stand for
your community. That does not mean you
wont make mistakes, but it’s how you handle
those mistakes, the medal of any good
man or woman. When you enter a contest
and win or lose, you have served a bigger
community.
The leather/BDSM/fetish/kink community,
may host a contest but they are giving you
the voice and the torch. A bully pulpit if
you will to make your community better in
some way. And even if you don’t succeed
you will not be judged by failure, only by
your character.
Give it a try and you may find others will
also see what is inside your heart and go
with you. If you can’t show your heart, you
might find it right there at that moment on
the stage. So win or lose the contest, it really
never matters. What matters is who you see
in the mirror the next day.
E. CHARLTON FORTUNE - GAY WOMAN ARTIST -
FEATURED AT PASADENA MUSEUM OF ART
E. Charlton Fortune was born in California
in 1885. She was classified as an American
Impressionist artist. Her early work was
compared to the Impressionist movement
in Europe although her work was beyond
the Impressionist style with a uniqueness of
its own.
She didn’t focus on nature alone but on nature
and the influence of humans in nature
including architecture and people integrated
into the content. Her works were known
for vivid color and depicting how humans
affected the environment. She also painted
many portraits.
co-established the Fortune and Ryland firm
which concentrated on creating liturgical
arts for Roman Catholic Churches. In
1955, she received the papal award Pro
eccesia et Pontifice for outstanding achievement
in creating liturgical art.
The Opening on Sunday, August 20 at the
Pasadena Museum of Art features many of
Fortune’s early landscape works and examples
of the liturgical art she became known
for at the end of her life career.
Questions, Comments, Suggesstions - contact
- adamsartexpose@gmail.com
Forune’s background coming from a
wealthy family provided her opportunity to
study in Europe and the U.S. She was also
introduced to the prime art movements of
the time of which her early work demonstrates
the influence she received from this
exposure.
She was very independent in not wanting to
be gender identified in her work. Her birth
name was Euphemia Charlton Fortune. As
a child into adolescence, she was called Effie
by family and friends. When she began
to show her work she changed her signature
to E. Charlton Fortune which gave her
name more of a masculine sound and many
times she was identified as a male artist
until she became more widely recognized
in the art community.
After studying and working in Europe
during the early 1900’ s she returned to
California where she joined the Carmel
Art Association. In 1928 her interest in
art turned to religious subject matter. She
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by jersey Shore
I have always had the worst timing. I
miss seeing things happen by a split
second, or the fact that I don’t win
any kind of luck related lottery type
of a thing either. I would get injuries
during the busy season, or the air
conditioning goes out on the hottest
day on weekend or your phone service
ends when you have no money.
Well, my universe is final in synch,
well hopefully not just for now. I
took time off this summer, as it was
an excruciating Summer, jobs fell
into place right before the season
started. I had a mental breakdown
during summer. So perfect timing
on my brains part too. I can joke
about that now. Heck, if I felt better I
would have joked about it then.
One lesson I have learned being
alive for my forty five years on this
planet is you really can’t take things
too seriously. Eventually you have
to laugh or just let out a deep breath
from life’s series of events. As happy
or tragic as they may be.
much as I smoke my medical marijuana
and get all happy, it’s not until
I laugh and the true testament of that
theory is experimented on.
So, laughter is good. Who knew. Its
free and you can get it anytime you
want. There could be a Tsunami
and if you fart at the right moment,
losing your home won’t feel so bad.
Leave the comedy to the professionals.
few celebrities that’s will be in attendance to
meet.
LGBT events: Chill Bar and The Barracks
also welcome Comic con attendees with
contests and prizes. The Barracks will have
a mash up of epic proportions as the Mr.
Leather Contest Meet and Greet will happen
on the same night.
AT The CON
On the main floor is the sales and exhibit
space. You may need to make a few loops
to see most of it, as people tend to cluster
and form lines to see and buy something.
And when we say something, that’s a lot, in
fact there is something for every fan, every
kid, adult, and every gender. It’s like your
favorite buffet of history, legacy, new releases,
people, products, and even the creators
of your kids favorite comic will be on hand.
Basically all the merch and buying one-ofa-kind
artwork directly from the creators is
the floor.
Also people, the floor will be full of people
as you are or dressed up as a favorite movie/TV/comic
character. They may be your
favorite too. If you want a picture, please
ask and make sure they hear you to get that
best one of a kind shot. But they may be off
to a panel or the bathroom, so don’t panic if
they say no. And no selfies without consent.
Exclusives and collectibles.
These items usually skyrocket in price a
day after “the Con” so be on the lookout.
Funko, Hasboro and tons of other companies
and studios will have incredible items
to buy that are exclusive to Comic-Cons.
Those collectors will be there early to get
the best deals. Also collecting may take up
your time, a lot, so it’s best to make a plan
and read the information guides and ask.
These people are mostly collectors like you
and are happy to assist. And be nice and
pleasant because that is how Comic Con
operates, but if you are a jerk, they can also
send you to the Stan Lee booth, nice but
not the Funko collector edition.
If you just like to look and have no particular
goal, wait a couple hours before heading
over there to avoid the gushing crowds of
exclusive toy-hunters and panel attendees.
You will want sensible shoes, a phone charger,
a backpack to carry all your purchases,
deodorant, and plenty of water.
It all starts on Friday
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Well, just as you think the circus is going to
leave town, it extends its performances.
This week we had the tragedy in Charlottesville
where a talented young woman lost her
life to a neo-Nazi at a rally made up of KKK
and white supremacists. The bigot-in-chief
remained on the golf course for two days and
then made a statement blaming “both sides”.
After intense pressure, he READ a statement
denouncing the haters but when he couldn’t
help himself a few days later went off script
about infrastructure and went on a diatribe
supporting white nationalists. Later in the
day he went further supporting statues to
confederate traitors to the nation during the
Civil War.
Finally, one Republican senator – Corker of
Tennessee broke and said the President did
not have the capacity or make up for the job.
The Speaker of the House did his best weak
voiced statement against hate speech and the
Senate Majority Leader stayed silent. Where
are all the good Republicans??
Leaders from around the world spoke out
against Nazism and called on our President to
do the same
The Joint Chiefs of the military all went on
their Twitter accounts to denounce racism
and hate speech and the Chief of Staff finally
had enough and fired the senior advisor to the
President, Stephen Bannon, but that has not
quieted the furor. For their part, the President
went back to the golf course and his best
bud – Vladdy Putin went to the beach, being
photographed sans shirt soaking up the rays.
We cannot sustain this farce of a President
for four years. Congress or the Cabinet – DO
YOUR JOB!
Labor Day there will be a Resistance Rally at
the Cathedral City Town Square Park by the
Civic Center. It will be from 5:30pm – 7:00pm
and feature speakers from local and county
government, education, healthcare, environment
and more. There will even be kid’s activities
so folks can bring the family. Come join
us as the valley says NO to Donald Trump and
his regressive policies!
Well, that’s it for this week. Keep moving forward
and RESISTING!
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in
Cathedral City. Greg was the first openly
gay elected city council members In Riverside
County. He has served on the boards
of the National League of Cities and the
League of California Cities and as President
of the Southern CA Association of
Governments.
rumored the original voice of Ash from
A regular favorite Zombie maze. Think you
and your friends have what it takes? Prove
it, In the zombie maze room! You and your
friends must use wits, stealth, and determination
to find the cure and save humanity!
Located in the Cactus room at the Renaissance
Lots to do this weekend,
Hint there is plenty of parking around and
down the street from the convention center.
The main entrance is on the mountain
side and there will be a process to get your
tickets. So if you dress cosplay you may
want to be dropped off in front. And never
ever say “That’s a nice costume” or “Collectible
pose-able (“articulated”) figures are
only toys in the hands of a child.”
