For some, that would be the right casket. For Leanne’s Dad it was a complete mismatch of his values. He valued Lancaster bomber printed on to a Wayfarer casket. Tom was a gunner. authenticity and things natural. Why, when in every other area of his life he made choices aligned with this, should his departing vessel be such a stark contrast? His family were not offered an alternative to this formula. Should they, in their grief have had to end up with this disappointment? This idea stuck with Greg and he has dedicated the last 10 years of his life to ensuring that families have choice and the opportunity to farewell their loved one in a casket that matches what was important to them in their life. Care for the environment and saving resources have always been important values of Return to Sender. Greg is also a designer and believes that beauty and care for the environment can go hand-in-hand. Therefore Return to Sender has never used materials like MDF or plastic. All caskets are made as naturally as possible – from wood or plywood. The company plants a native tree for every casket it makes and this year planted more than 1500 trees on Motutapu Island in the Hauraki Gulf and Makara Cemetery in Wellington.
